The Data and Reporting section within the Disability Employment Group is seeking a Business Analyst for a non-ongoing contract of 6 months with the possibility of extension, depending on the performance of the successful candidate and the business requirements of the section.
The Business Analyst role is integral to ensuring policy research and analytics requirements are well understood and validated by the respective policy areas. The BA will work closely with the data scientists, analysts, visualizers and researchers within the branch, and policy areas to identify, refine and document business requirements ensuring research and analytics work undertaken is aligned with the business expectations.
The Business Analyst is essential in assisting policy and program areas to identify the business need or critical decisions underlying their need for analytical services. They will also play a key role in engaging with stakeholders and developing relationships to ensure strong partnerships between the branch and business areas.
The Business Analyst will be able to create and present business requirement documents for existing reports, metadata and data centred specifications and will assist in the training and upskilling of staff, as well as conduct knowledge transfer of these reports to staff before the completion of their contract. The successful candidate will require at least a baseline security clearance.

Essential Criteria
1) Highly skilled in end-to-end business analysis - process mapping, process re-engineering, user stories, workshop facilitation and improvement techniques.
2) Proven experience in developing specification documentations, and obtaining stakeholder sign-off.
3) Strong ability to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to scope, develop and document business requirements for data driven research and analytic projects.
4) Proven track record of adhering to tight delivery schedule and high standards, and ability to respond flexibly to changing circumstances.
5) A friendly and approachable demeanour with excellent written and verbal communication skills including ability to communicate and build relationships at all levels.
Desirable Criteria
1) An interest in social policy and understanding of analytical, research and evaluation concepts and methodologies.
2) Familiarity with the Department of Social Services (DSS), Services Australia or Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) data environments.
3) Familiarity with the Department of Social Services policy environment.
