Overview

The Data Platform and Education Systems Branch of the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) is seeking the services of multiple manual software testers as part of a number of teams, provide quality test and sustainment services across a highly complex technical ICT system in education sections.

The role requires a highly adaptive and collaborative Senior Tester with at least 5 years demonstrated experience. They will be required for a period of no less than 2 months with the possibility of a 6-12 month extension. The possible candidate must be eligible to apply and maintain a minimum Baseline security clearance.

They should have sound communication skills with the ability to engage user groups, technical teams, management and other stakeholders throughout the delivery process. We are looking for a self-starter with intellectual curiosity.

They must have extensive experience manually testing User Interfaces and APIs, as well as generating SQL queries. It would also be desirable if they were to have experience testing Message Queues, Notification processing as well as the ability to coordinate inter-departmental (joint) testing activities.

The manual testers will be responsible for:

  • Contributing to the technical design of solutions using a breadth of knowledge and experience;
  • Working closely with the business analysts and developers to deliver high quality solutions that meet the standards set by the delivery team;
  • Having more than 5 years industry based experience in manually testing the CRM applications and API integration;
  • Writing some complex SQL queries and testing message queues;
  • Being a valued member of a multi-disciplinary agile delivery team, and actively participating in daily and weekly agile ceremonies;
  • Using excellent written and verbal communication skills to ensure there is a shared understanding of problems and solutions amongst technical and non-technical staff;
  • Undertake work that is complex or time sensitive and operate under limited direction, with the opportunity for autonomy and accountability; and
  • Perform additional duties or assume responsibility of functions as directed by the supervisor/director from time to time.

Essential Criteria

1. More than 5 years industry-based experience across all aspects of the software testing lifecycle with respect to manual testing, including: - deriving test cases through the analysis of business requirements, - designing and executing of API and CRM cases; - a solid understanding of defect management; - preparing Test Plans and coordinating User Acceptance Testing activities 40 %

2. Solid working knowledge of SQL and working experience in SQL Server 2014 and later; Working experience in testing message queues. 20 %

3. Excellent written, oral and facilitation skills, enabling the development of strong working relationships with stakeholders at all levels. Demonstrated ability to effectively use communication and negotiation skills to manage relationships in a challenging IT environment. 10 %

4. Ability to work effectively within/manage an Agile test team, as well as your ability to work independently and manage your own workload. Include details of your experience in leading and mentoring staff. Experience working in an Agile software development environment and experience using Agile development toolset 20 %

5. Commitment to, and demonstrated ability to apply, the principles of diversity, participative work practices, learning and development and Occupational Health and Safety. 10 %

Desirable Criteria

1. Experience utilising Azure to facilitate Application development tracking and TOSCA to perform automated testing tasks. Experience in using Azure Application Insight to track exceptions; And using TOSCA to perform automated testing tasks
