Automation Specialist NV2

 Job Description:

Australian Citizens With NV2 Clearance previous defence experience preferred.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • 5+ years experience designing, implementing and supporting automation and orchestration solutions in large scale, geographically dispersed and security-hardened on-premise environments which operate in low-bandwidth and disconnected states;
  • 5+ years experience designing, implementing and developing automation and orchestration solutions using technologies such as Ansible, Jenkins, Terraform, JFrog Artifactory and Gitlab pipelines.
  • 5+ years experience in automation and orchestration using Microsoft .NET technologies (i.e. C#, asp.net, PowerShell), and programming common API integration, e.g. RestFUL;
  • Detailed knowledge and skills in the process, design, implementation, configuration of DevSecOps technologies; specifically using Ansible, GitLab, PowerShell, Bash, Python, Jira and confluence;
  • Experience designing, implementing and developing security-hardened Linux environments from scratch; specifically, the Red Hat Enterprise Linux ecosystem, SELinux, fapolicyd
  • Detailed knowledge and skills in applying cyber security principles towards the design, implementation and configuration of DevSecOps technologies. Security hardening of DevSecOps technologies in accordance with relevant governance frameworks and policies;
  • Detailed knowledge and skills in leveraging DevSecOps technologies to apply agile methodologies and principles;
  • Detailed knowledge and skills in utilising DevSecOps technologies to deliver infrastructure-as-code and documentation-as-code;
  • Experience developing patterns and templates for infrastructure automation in support of DevSecOps, CI/CD pipelines and rapid onboarding of technical resources;
  • Must have experience working with and automating Windows and Linux platforms;
  • Ability to take requirements, standards and frameworks and apply in a practical application to future proposed solution designs and systems;
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills with demonstrable experience of presentation and engagement with stakeholders, projects and business areas;
  • Ability to rapidly build, automate and deliver proof of concept systems to support analysis, testing, accreditation and development activities within a DevSecOps framework;
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing requirements in a fast paced highly kinetic environment to meet changing deadlines and deliverables;
  • Ability to work under broad direction with a high level of autonomy; and,


  • Experience developing highly available/fault tolerant systems, networks and infrastructure in a connected, partially connected, degraded or often disconnected state.

Desirable Skills and Experience

Experience working with source code repositories;

  • Experience with on-premises containerisation technologies such as Docker, Podman, OpenShift, Kubernetes is highly desirable;
  • Experience with Microsoft technologies, specifically Windows Server, IIS, SharePoint and SQL, is highly desirable;
  • Experience working within heavily virtualized on-premises hyper-converged infrastructure solutions using technologies such as Nutanix Enterprise Cloud
  • Knowledge of secure identity service integration, identity federation and Single Sign-On technology integration, with Infrastructure and related service interfaces, including Privileged Access Management.
  • Previous experience in a Technical Architect and/or Senior Operational Support role;
  • 5+ years of experience in configuring, building and supporting multi-vendor geographically dispersed solutions;
  • 5+ years designing, configuring, implementing and supporting secure infrastructure systems, including varying levels of required security, caveats and controls;
  • Experience with governance frameworks in relation to infrastructure service and security delivery including required subsystems, i.e.: Australia Information Security Manual (ISM);
  • Experience and knowledge in applying cyber-security controls and practices aligned to zero-trust architecture principles; and
  • Experience with Australian Defence Force deployed environments/platforms and the unique networking, support and security constraints, is highly desirable.
