Position Overview:
The Hunter Class Frigate Program (HCFP) will provide nine frigates optimised for anti-submarine warfare to replace the Anzac class frigates based on the UKs Type 26 Global Combat Ship, modified to meet Australian requirements. The design changes include:
- The Aegis combat management system with the Saab Australia developed Australian Interface.
- The Australian designed and built CEAFAR2 phased array radar
- Integration of systems to support Australian weapons.
- Integration of the Seahawk Romeo Maritime Combat Helicopter.
- Australian communications systems; and
- Australian legislative requirements.
MIWS responsibilities in the program are focused on design and integration of the Combat System, weapon system, CEAFAR radar and communications development for this ship class.
The Combat System Engineering Director shall provide maritime systems engineering services associated with one or more of the fields of mechatronic systems, electrical or electronic engineering for communications, combat and weapon systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Independently plan and deliver critical and complex engineering activities and provide advice in all relevant engineering disciplines and management systems under broad direction
Demonstrated agility and an ability to effectively manage multiple competing priorities
Work effectively and cohesively with internal and external stakeholders, including external below the line contactors and other Defence agencies
Conduct requirements analysis and development
Conduct design and implementation
Conduct verification and validation
Conduct certification and support
Conduct in-service support of maritime systems and related engineering services
Conduct review of contract deliverables
Qualifications/Skills
Bachelor of Engineering from an Australian institution, or a qualification gained elsewhere, that satisfies the requirements of the Washington Accord for recognition as a Professional Engineer.
Engineering qualifications in electronics /electrical marine engineering is highly desirable
Maritime domain experience and combat weapons engineering experience is highly desirable
