Overview
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) has a requirement for a highly skilled ICT Technical Specialist to oversee the delivery of the departments End to End Monitoring Project within the Digital Services Division (DSD). This engagement will not be a full-time role, with DAFF looking to engage a resource on a part-time basis to oversee the programs technical delivery at approximately 1-2 days per week.
DSD is responsible for the management and delivery of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) functions and activities across Australia and overseas for the department. The division provides a secure, modern ICT environment so that the department can conduct its business 24/7 and focus on achieving departmental outcomes.
The End to End Monitoring Project exists to deliver an enterprise monitoring capability that provides monitoring of export systems and services so that potential system issues can be identified and resolved earlier, reducing service disruption for exporters.
The duties performed will include:
- Working with product development teams to understand system architectures, and services including complex integrations with other systems.
- Identify gaps in monitoring and logging that need to be addressed, including by both the end-to-end monitoring team and by product development teams.
- Communicate with business, product development teams and technical stakeholders within DSD about their pain points, potential solutions, their role in monitoring and any blockers as they arise during implementation.
- Work closely with technical leads to design monitoring dashboards that provide real-time insights into system and application health.
- Assist the Solution Architect to develop and document strategies for the enterprise monitoring capability.
- Lead technical planning and delivery of the log aggregator in accordance with the program outcomes, including managing technical dependencies.
- Lead technical resources on the program to deliver to program outcomes.
- Maintaining currency and subject matter expertise through ongoing professional development and learning opportunities outside the formal education process.

Essential Criteria Weighting
1. Extensive experience working in Federal Government. - Ability to adapt/work across agile and waterfall methodologies. - At least 5 years experience as a Technical Specialist working within technology and/or infrastructure projects.

5. Experience using log analytics tools, such as Splunk, Splunk IT Service Intelligence (ITSI), Elastic and Azure Log Analytics and developing database queries such as SQL Server and Oracle DBMS.
