Overview
The Data Capability Exchange (DCx) section is a part of the Enterprise Transformation Branch within the Enterprise Transformation Division. We are a collaborative and driven team of professionals focused on supporting business with data analytics, geospatial capability and report visualisation to inform broader organisation governance, policies and operations. It is an exciting time as the team also works closely with the Election Systems Modernisation program to define the new landscape for the AEC systems and processes. As part of the team, you also get to see tangible outcomes from your work: most notably the delivery of a Referendum and other electoral events and services.
The Power BI Data Engineer will be primarily focussed on improvements to existing Power BI reports as well as development of new reports utilising both Power BI reporting Services (on-prem) and Cloud Services platforms.
Data Engineers will be also expected to have an understanding of the report-development life cycle, articulating data visualisation techniques with report-owners and be able to work with limited supervision.
The role will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Evaluate business needs and objectives.
- Conduct complex data analysis and report on results.
- Explore ways to enhance data quality and reliability.
- Build algorithms and prototypes.
- Interpret trends and patterns.
- Identify opportunities for data acquisition.
- Prepare data for prescriptive and predictive modelling.
- Collaborate with relevant stakeholders on projects/outcomes.
- Analyse and organize data from different sources, Incl Structured and Unstructured
- Build data systems and pipelines including building ETL/ELT

Mandatory Criteria
- Previous experience in a similar role, i.e. Data Engineer, Data Analyst, Developer
- Numerical and analytical skills
- Hands-on experience with SQL database design, SSAS, SSIS
- Knowledge of programming languages and frameworks (e.g. C#, Python, R, SQL, BIML)
- Technical expertise with data modelling, data mining, and segmentation techniques
- Working knowledge using Microsoft Power platform, mainly PowerBI
- Degree and/or related certification
Desirable Criteria
- Experience in Power BI Cloud Services administration user access, workspaces, publishing.
- Understanding of pro-active co-design/collaboration techniques.
- Experience in developing corporate/strategic reports for senior management.
