Job Openings Chairperson

About the job Chairperson

Smart Talent is delighted to be working with Australia's North West Tourism in its search for a dynamic Chairperson.

About Australia's North West

Australia's North West (ANW) is a strong and future-ready organisation, drawing on the expertise of highly skilled staff, contractors, and a Board, as well as corporate and government partnerships to deliver tourism marketing and development for the North West of Australia. The organisation promotes the region through efficient and effective marketing, drives industry engagement, generates new revenue opportunities, and facilitates capability building in the region.

Role of the Chairperson

The Board Chairperson's role is to lead and manage the meetings and affairs of the Board, including but not limited to:

  • Ensuring the Board focuses on ANW's performance, by working with the CEO and the Board in managing the Board's priorities.
  • Ensuring the existence of effective strategic planning and the appropriate consideration of future opportunities.
  • Ensuring that probity is maintained in accounting, reporting and all other relevant aspects.
  • Ensuring the distinct roles and responsibilities of the Board and Management are understood and respected by both the Board and Management.
  • Setting the tone for the Board to foster ethical and responsible decision-making, appropriate oversight of administration and best practices in governance.
  • Acting as a liaison between the Board and the CEO, and providing advice, counsel and mentorship to the CEO.
  • Serving as a key interface among Board Directors.
  • Presiding as Chairperson at all meetings of the Board, including ensuring that all Board Directors are afforded the opportunity to contribute their positions, views, advice and questions in an open and constructive manner: and ensuring that Board discussions and decisions are properly summarised and recorded.
  • Ensuring that the functions of the Board delegated to sub-committees or working groups of the Board are carried out by the sub-committees and working groups.
  • Effectively and fairly representing the Board, in co-operation with the CEO, in ANW's communications with its broader stakeholders, respecting the primacy of the CEO's role in this respect, and sometimes acting as the leading representative of the organisation in its dealing with key stakeholders.
  • Ensuring the adoption of, and compliance with, policies and procedures so that the Board will effectively fulfill its responsibilities in compliance with the Associations Incorporation Act 2015.

Location

This role is ideally based in Perth; however, the Chairperson is required to travel to Australia's North West region for meetings and events as required.

Remuneration

The Chairperson is provided an honorarium payment of $30,000 (ex GST) per annum.
