Position Summary

Reporting to the Group Chief Safety Officer, the Head of Safety will be responsible for supporting a proactive safety culture ensuring that all operations meet legal, regulatory, and industry safety standards

Head of SHE Responsibilities

  • Support with the development and maintenance of an industry best practice integrated HSE management system, working towards ISO 45001
  • Support the implementation of the business wide Health & Safety Strategy
  • Ensure that systems, processes, and procedures are in line with legislation and best practice in the gas industry
  • Support the asset and operational teams in the preparation and demonstration of Process Safety, including COMAH inspections and Safety Case reviews.
  • Advise the business on engineering compliance and control measures
  • Ensure the completion of audit and inspections in line with Company procedures to assure operation excellence is consistently achieved
  • Support engagement with external bodies, clients and where necessary, customers concerning safety
  • Support the implementation of a Risk Management Strategy aligned to BS ISO 31000
  • Manage the risk registers within the Company, monitoring actions and mitigations necessary to reduce likelihood and severity of defined outcomes.
  • Develop a monitoring system to ensure the business complies with all H&S regulation, relevant codes of practice, regulatory targets, and stakeholder requirements
  • Report business unit performance and KPIs for HS&E and make recommendations at the agreed frequency.
  • Ensure that business processes and activities fulfil the requirements of the Major Accident Prevention policy and the Control of Major Accident Hazards
  • Drive safety culture by promoting and implementing a safe working environment and a culture of reporting.
  • Ensure the Company complies with all legal and regulatory Health & Safety requirements in its day-to-day activities
  • Lead, update, and track corrective and preventative actions (e.g. following an incident audit or MOC), and ensure those actions are visible to colleagues and the management team in an appropriate log with supporting documentation
  • Provide support to the Leadership Team Senior Managers and Board of Directors in matters related to gas safety, regulations, and best practice as and when required
  • Ensure a competency management system is implemented and managed
  • Ensure a document control system is implemented and managed
  • Ensure function team remain efficient and targets are achieved and support with personal development
  • Successful delivery of key objectives set by the business
  • Responsible for budget control within function
  • Participation in an operational standby.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Significant experience in health and safety roles, with a proven track record of managing safety programs and leading
  • NEBOSH Diploma or similar level H&S qualification

Desirable Skill Set:

  • 5-10 years gas, utility or hazardous industry experience in a technical and/or operational environment which includes Process Safety
  • Degree level qualification, ideally in an engineering discipline
  • Chartered or Incorporated with an Engineering or Safety related professional institution
  • Able to demonstrate competency in Process Safety
