Job Openings Paralegal

About the job Paralegal

Are you the paralegal who already knows what needs to be done — and just does it?
We help people regain control over their lives during a family crisis. That work demands people who take it seriously.

At Slovensky Law, we hold ourselves to an unusually high standard of responsiveness — with clients, with each other, and with opposing counsel. We tell clients the hard truth about their cases, even when it's not what they want to hear, because informed clients make better decisions. We take every action with a purpose. And we expect the people who work here to operate the same way.

If that sounds like the standard you already hold yourself to, keep reading.

The role

We're looking for an experienced family law paralegal to join our team in a direct support role for a lead attorney. This is not a position where you'll be managed step by step. You'll own your work — and we'll trust you to.

Day to day, that means:

- Drafting petitions, counterclaims, motions, and correspondence to courts and counsel
- Preparing mandatory disclosures — financial affidavits, discovery responses, discovery requests
- Coordinating hearings, depositions, mediations, and trials
- Maintaining organized electronic client files with the kind of attention to detail that means nothing falls through the cracks
- Communicating directly with clients — clearly, honestly, and with appropriate sensitivity
- Capturing billable time accurately every day, not at the end of the week
- Follow-up and follow-through are not soft skills here — they are the job. If deadlines drift or loops don't get closed, this isn't the right fit.

What we're looking for

The ideal candidate has 3 or more years of family law paralegal experience, preferably in a litigation-focused environment. That said, we recognize that exceptional paralegals come from different backgrounds — if you're sharp, adaptable, and serious about the work, we want to hear from you regardless of where you've practiced.

Beyond experience, we need someone who:

Writes well — correspondence you draft doesn't need to be rewritten

Is genuinely comfortable with technology and actively embraces new tools, including AI

We are a firm that evolves our processes continuously and expect the same from our team
Can learn new systems quickly; Clio experience is a strong plus

Has the self-direction to look at a caseload and know what needs to happen next without being told

Sees a better way of doing something and actually says so — we invest in continuous improvement and expect that orientation from everyone here

Compensation & benefits
$50,000 – $65,000, commensurate with experience

The top of our range is available for candidates with extensive family law litigation experience, strong adaptability across systems, and a proven track record of maintaining billable hours. We offer a full benefits package and believe our compensation is at or above comparable small firm salaries in the Roanoke market.

This is primarily an in-office position with occasional remote flexibility.
