Job Description - Mechanical Engineering Draftsperson:

Main Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings for fabrication, assembly, and installation of stainless steel, structural steel, and mining equipment.
  • Interpret engineering designs, client specifications, and project requirements into workshop-ready drawings.
  • Estimating material costs and making sure work meets specifications, regulations, and contract requirements.
  • Develop drawings for stainless steel fabrication, structural frameworks, chutes, hoppers, tanks, handrails, balustrades, platforms, and mining components.
  • Review and revise drawings to reflect design updates, site modifications, and engineering feedback.
  • Conduct site measurements, inspections, and surveys to ensure accuracy and compliance with design intent.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and workshop supervisors to resolve design and fabrication issues.
  • Ensure all drawings comply with relevant Australian Standards, mining industry codes, and company quality systems.
  • Assist in preparing fabrication schedules, installation details, and technical documentation for project delivery.
  • Checking that fabrication equipment is safely fabricated and correct and managing maintenance or repairs to keep it functioning properly.
  • Maintain accurate drawing registers, revision control, and document management.
  • Collect and analyse fabrication and site data, performing calculations to ensure components meet design, safety, and quality standards.
  • Provide technical support to workshop and site teams during fabrication and installation.
  • Apply knowledge of welding, fabrication techniques, and stainless-steel finishing processes to drafting tasks.
  • Inspecting fabricated components, welds, and materials to ensure mining compliance and quality; recording data during fabrication and installation.

Skills

  • Skilled in interpreting engineering drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of drafting practices, CAD software and materials.
  • Proven collaboration, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Dedicated to accuracy, safety, and quality assurance in all drafting outputs

Experience, Including Number of Years

  • 1-2 years of experience in Drafting

Qualifications

  • Relevant certification or 1-2 years experience in Mechanical Drafting.
