Job Description
A First Class Welder at J&S Engineering performs high-quality welding using various techniques and equipment across a range of structural and fabricated components. You will interpret technical drawings, ensure dimensional accuracy, maintain strict safety and quality compliance, and contribute to critical-path projects in the heavy mining and manufacturing industry.

Main Responsibilities
Perform welding on structural and mechanical components of heavy earthmoving equipment such as buckets,
booms, dipper arms, and undercarriages.
Follow detailed repair scopes, Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), and engineering drawings with minimal
supervision.
Execute gouging, cutting, welding, and overlay on high-wear areas using multiple methods (FCAW, GMAW, SAW, ID
welding).
Work in compliance with AS/NZS 1554 standards and OEM repair procedures.
Ensure correct preheat, interpass temperature, and weld sequencing to minimise distortion.
Collaborate with boilermakers, machinists, and NDT inspectors to meet integrity and dimensional requirements.
Complete QA and weld traceability documentation including heat sheets, weld maps, and time records.
Maintain a clean, hazard-free workspace and comply with SWMS, JSEA, and company WHS protocols.

Skills
Welding Knowledge: Proficient in all-position welding, gouging, and crack repair.
Technical Literacy: Can read and interpret engineering drawings and weld symbols.
Quality Assurance: Self-checks welds and surfaces for cracks, defects, and compliance before sign-off.
Safe Work Practices: Works to WHS standards, follows SWMS, and uses correct PPE.
Teamwork: Communicates effectively and supports co-workers in a collaborative environment.

Experience
Minimum 5 years post-trade welding experience.
Minimum 3 years in the mining or heavy fabrication sector.
Proven experience in heavy structural repairs, rebuilds, and fabrication.
Demonstrated ability to work to WPS and engineering specifications.
Experience operating overhead cranes and rigging equipment (advantageous).
Air arc gouging, MIG, and Sub-arc welding experience highly regarded.

Qualifications
Certificate III in Engineering Fabrication Trade (Boilermaker/Welder); or equivalent relevant experience.
Desirable:
High-Risk Licences: Forklift, Overhead Crane, Rigging, EWP, Working at Heights, Confined Space Entry.
