TECHNICAL SALES REPRESENTATIVE (ELECTRONICS)
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: FULL TIME, PERMANENT
Astute Electronics Pty Ltd is a global distributor of electronic components and logistical services, supporting industries such as Defence, Aerospace, Mining, Medical and Security. With more than 280 staff globally and sales exceeding £150M through 2025, Astute delivers engineering design support, supply-chain solutions and high-reliability electronic component distribution.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with Defence, Aerospace, Mining, Medical and Security sector clients, including engineers, procurement teams, technicians and service managers.
- Identify, qualify and pursue new business opportunities, with a focus on Defence and Aerospace growth.
- Conduct product presentations and technical demonstrations highlighting the capabilities of Astutes electronic components and logistical service offerings.
- Provide technical guidance and support to customers, responding to queries and advising on appropriate solutions.
- Manage onboarding activities and ensure customers have smooth access to Astutes services and product range.
- Maintain in-depth technical knowledge of existing products and new electronics franchises introduced into the region.
- Support colleagues by delivering product training, technical updates and guidance.
- Develop project plans with internal stakeholders and Australian customers to engineer solutions aligned with Astutes business propositions.
- Attend trade shows, conferences and networking events (AIDN, ICN, ADA-VIC) to identify opportunities and stay current with competitors and market trends.
- Prepare monthly reports on sales performance, project pipelines, tenders, quotes, and customer activity.
- Manage and retain client relationships across multiple departments, ensuring ongoing satisfaction and repeat business.
- Mentor colleagues where required through planning guidance, training input and KPI discussions.
Skills
- Strong technical understanding of electronic components, engineering concepts and logistical support services.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage confidently with engineers, technicians and senior stakeholders.
- Ability to conduct effective technical presentations and product demonstrations.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to assess market conditions, identify viable income streams and respond to competitor activity.
- Project planning and coordination skills, including the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Relationship-building capability with a focus on customer retention and growth.
- Competence in reporting, opportunity tracking and sales forecasting.
- Ability to stay updated with technological advancements and emerging market trends.
Qualifications
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering, Electronics, Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, ICT, Business, or a related discipline (or equivalent industry experience).
- Additional product-specific or manufacturer training in electronic components is advantageous.
- Valid drivers licence for client site visits.
Experience
- Demonstrated experience in technical sales, electronic component distribution, engineering sales, or a similar technical client-facing role.
- Proven track record of developing new business opportunities and managing key accounts.
- Experience working with Defence, Aerospace, Mining, Medical or Security industry clients is highly regarded.
- Background in collaborating with engineers, procurement teams, technicians or service managers.
- Experience developing project plans, solution proposals and tender/quote submissions.
- Exposure to trade shows, networking events and industry engagement forums.
- Previous experience mentoring or guiding team members is beneficial but not essential.
