Position Description
The Senior DevOps Engineer works with the DevOps & Cloud Engineer Lead and software engineering teams to build, automate and support the cloud infrastructure and DevOps capabilities that underpin the company's Digital Product portfolio.
The role is primarily hands-on, with a focus on Azure, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD and automation. The successful candidate will help implement established platform standards and patterns, support application teams and progressively take ownership of defined areas of the platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, configure and maintain Azure infrastructure supporting Digital Product applications and services.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code using Bicep/Terraform, following established platform patterns and standards.
- Build and maintain Azure DevOps pipelines across Dev, UAT and Production environments, supporting application onboarding, infrastructure deployment and CI/CD processes.
- Automate infrastructure and operational processes using PowerShell, Azure CLI, Bash, Python and other appropriate tooling.
- Support the deployment and operation of .NET applications and supporting Azure services.
- Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve cloud infrastructure, deployment and pipeline issues.
- Identify opportunities to improve automation, reliability, security and operational efficiency.
- Contribute to technical standards, documentation and reusable tooling, staying current on emerging technologies and actively sharing knowledge across the team.
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including software developers, testers, architects, security, enterprise platform teams and project managers.
Essential Qualifications / Experience
- Computer Science, Information Technology or related degree, or equivalent practical experience.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure is required; experience with other cloud platforms such as AWS is advantageous.
- Experience with Azure DevOps, Git and CI/CD concepts.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Bicep / Terraform), with Bicep experience highly desirable.
- Practical scripting or automation experience using PowerShell, Bash, Azure CLI, Python or a similar language.
- Understanding of cloud infrastructure concepts including networking, identity, access management and security.
- Experience with, or understanding of, deploying and supporting applications in a cloud environment.
- Experience with .NET, SQL Server / Azure SQL, PostgreSQL, Azure APIM, App Service, Load Balancer and Virtual Machines, along with Azure security controls including RBAC, managed identities, Key Vault and network security — highly desirable.
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Claude) and familiarity with integrating LLM APIs into workflows.
- Understanding of software development practices including source control, pull requests and code review.
- Good communication skills – written and verbal.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Takes ownership of assigned work and follows tasks through to completion.
- The ability to occasionally work outside normal business hours, including weekends.
