What You'll Do

As an Animal Care Technician, you'll play a vital role in maintaining the health, comfort, and welfare of research animals while supporting important scientific studies.

Responsibilities include:

  • Daily feeding, watering, and care of animals
  • Conducting animal health and welfare observations
  • Recognizing and reporting signs of illness or distress
  • Cleaning and sanitizing animal housing and equipment
  • Maintaining accurate records and documentation
  • Assisting with sample collection and research procedures
  • Supporting facility biosecurity and animal welfare initiatives
  • Maintaining animal pens, feeders, watering systems, and equipment

What We're Looking For

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least 2 years of experience working with animals in a professional or agricultural setting
  • Experience in livestock handling, farming, veterinary assistance, animal husbandry, kennels, shelters, or research environments is highly valued
  • Comfortable working around animals in a hands-on environment
  • Willingness to obtain Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to animal welfare
  • Basic computer skills and recordkeeping ability

Physical Requirements

This is an active, hands-on position that requires:

  • Working in various environmental conditions, including hot, cold, humid, and noisy settings
  • Lifting up to 70 pounds occasionally and 50 pounds frequently
  • Standing, walking, bending, and moving throughout the workday
  • Working directly with animals and livestock
  • Availability for occasional weekend rotations (every 5th weekend)
