Role Overview
We are seeking a competent and detail-oriented Locum Oncology Pharmacist to provide temporary specialist support in cancer care for a 2-week placement. The successful candidate will play a vital role in optimizing medication use, managing side effects, educating patients and healthcare teams, and ensuring safe and cost-effective delivery of oncology pharmaceuticals.
Key Responsibilities
Medication Management

Review, verify, and dispense oncology prescriptions.

Optimize and monitor the effects of prescribed cancer medications.

Manage adverse drug reactions and provide guidance on side-effect management.

Maintain accurate, up-to-date medication records for oncology patients.
Patient & Provider Education

Counsel patients on treatment regimens, drug interactions, and side effects.

Provide ongoing education and support to oncology physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals.
Collaboration & Clinical Practice

Work closely with oncologists, hematologists, and the wider oncology team to improve patient outcomes.

Participate in multidisciplinary clinical decision-making on medication selection and therapy optimization.
Safety & Cost-Effectiveness

Ensure compliance with oncology pharmacy safety protocols and handling procedures.

Promote cost-effective prescribing and medication use without compromising patient outcomes.
Specialized Duties

Support the compounding and preparation of customized oncology medications when required.

Contribute to risk assessments, patient screening, and clinical audits related to cancer treatment.
Qualifications & Requirements

Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D).

Valid practicing license with the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN).

Minimum of 35 years proven experience in oncology or hematology pharmacy.

Strong clinical knowledge in oncology therapeutics and pharmacology.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for patient counseling and provider collaboration.

High level of attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work under pressure.
