Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Equipment & Fleet Manager to oversee the management, maintenance, and optimal utilization of heavy construction equipment for a large-scale highway and earthworks project.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring maximum equipment uptime, operational efficiency, cost control, and strict safety compliance across all plant and fleet operations.
This role is critical to project delivery success, ensuring that all heavy-duty machinery is effectively deployed, properly maintained, and fully optimized throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet & Equipment Management
Manage and coordinate a large fleet of heavy construction equipment including excavators, bulldozers, graders, compactors, loaders, and dump trucks.
Plan equipment deployment, scheduling, and utilization to ensure maximum productivity across all site operations.
Monitor daily equipment usage and performance across multiple site activities.
Maintenance & Technical Operations
Develop and implement preventive and corrective maintenance schedules for all equipment.
Supervise repairs, servicing, and breakdown recovery operations.
Ensure all machinery is kept in optimal working condition to minimize downtime.
Liaise with OEMs, workshops, and technical vendors for specialized repairs.
Cost Control & Performance Monitoring
Monitor fuel consumption, maintenance costs, and overall equipment operating expenses.
Implement cost optimization strategies to improve fleet efficiency.
Track equipment performance indicators and recommend upgrades or replacements where necessary.
Team Supervision
Supervise equipment operators, mechanics, technicians, and support personnel.
Ensure proper allocation of tasks and adherence to operational procedures.
Conduct performance monitoring and training coordination for operators and technical staff.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure full compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards for all equipment operations.
Enforce licensing, inspection, and regulatory compliance requirements.
Conduct routine safety checks on machinery and operator practices.
Inventory & Documentation
Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance history, and operational logs.
Manage spare parts inventory and ensure timely availability of critical components.
Maintain detailed fleet asset registers and equipment lifecycle records.
Stakeholder & Project Coordination
Work closely with the Project Manager to forecast equipment needs and align with project schedules.
Support budgeting and procurement planning for equipment acquisition and leasing.
Provide regular fleet performance and utilization reports to management.
Requirements & Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Logistics, or a related field.
Minimum of 7–10+ years' experience in fleet or equipment management on large-scale construction or earthworks projects.
Strong hands-on experience with heavy plant machinery in Nigerian operational environments.
Proven ability to manage preventive maintenance systems and equipment lifecycle planning.
Strong leadership, coordination, and vendor negotiation skills.
Solid understanding of construction logistics, equipment deployment, and cost control systems.

Salary & Benefits
Monthly gross salary: ₦300,000 – ₦650,000+ (based on experience and proven track record)
