Role Overview:

We are looking for an experienced and compassionate Consultant Ophthalmologist to lead the delivery of high-quality eye care services in our facility. This role combines both clinical consultations and surgical interventions, with a focus on excellence in diagnosis, treatment, and patient outcomes. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to manage a variety of ocular conditions and promote preventative vision care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough eye examinations and diagnostic evaluations.

  • Treat and manage eye diseases including glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration.

  • Perform advanced eye surgeries such as cataract extraction, trabeculectomy, and laser treatments.

  • Prescribe medications and vision aids when appropriate.

  • Provide guidance on post-operative care and vision rehabilitation.

  • Collaborate with optometrists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals for integrated care.

  • Maintain accurate, confidential patient records using the hospitals EMR system.

  • Support training programs for residents, interns, and junior doctors.

  • Participate in quality assurance, CME, and clinical audits.

  • Provide on-call and emergency ophthalmic services as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.

  • Fellowship in Ophthalmology (FWACS, FMCOphth, MRCOphth, or equivalent).

  • Full registration and valid practicing license with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).

  • At least 35 years post-fellowship clinical and surgical experience in ophthalmology.

  • Demonstrated expertise in microsurgical procedures.

  • Excellent diagnostic, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

Desirable Attributes:

  • Proficiency in operating modern ophthalmic diagnostic and surgical equipment.

  • Subspecialty training (e.g., pediatric ophthalmology, retina, cornea) is an advantage.

  • A passion for mentoring and teaching junior medical staff.

  • Strong team collaboration and leadership capabilities.
