Head of Engineering and Technology

Location: Lekki, Lagos
Salary: 1.8M - 2.3M (Monthly)
Work Mode: Hybrid (2 days on-site, 3 days remote)
Reports To: Chief Technology Officer (CTO)

Role Overview:

We are seeking a visionary and results-driven Head of Engineering and Technology to lead our technology function within a key business unit. This leadership role is ideal for an experienced engineering executive who thrives in fast-paced environments, has deep technical knowledge, and excels at building and scaling high-performing teams.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in driving the companys technology strategy, overseeing product development, optimizing engineering processes, and delivering innovative solutions that align with our long-term business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Management

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to the engineering department to ensure alignment with organizational goals.

  • Inspire, mentor, and grow a team of engineers through strong people management, coaching, and performance evaluation.

  • Foster a collaborative and innovative engineering culture rooted in excellence, accountability, and creativity.

Technology Strategy & Execution

  • Develop and execute a scalable and sustainable technical roadmap to support product innovation and business growth.

  • Champion the adoption of modern engineering practices, tools, and technologies to drive operational efficiency.

  • Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of technical projects from design through development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.

Product Engineering & Delivery

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, and Business teams to define product requirements and execution timelines.

  • Ensure timely, high-quality, and customer-focused delivery of new products, features, and enhancements.

  • Continuously monitor and optimize system performance, user experience, and scalability.

Talent Acquisition & Development

  • Lead recruitment and onboarding of top-tier engineering talent, ensuring diversity and inclusion in hiring practices.

  • Drive continuous learning and development across the team through training, mentorship, and knowledge-sharing.

  • Create clear career paths and growth opportunities to retain and grow top performers.

Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Engagement

  • Act as the main liaison between engineering and executive leadership, providing regular updates on project progress, risks, and priorities.

  • Support cross-functional business initiatives through technical insight and executional support.

  • Represent the companys technology vision at conferences and industry events.

Data Protection (PII) Compliance

  • Design and maintain secure systems to manage personal data in line with data protection regulations.

  • Implement and oversee data collection processes, access controls, and transfer protocols.

  • Ensure full compliance with relevant data privacy standards and laws.

Qualifications & Experience

Education:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • An MBA or additional business qualification is an added advantage.

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in software engineering or technology roles.

  • At least 6 years in a senior leadership capacity managing engineering teams.

  • Demonstrated success in leading high-impact software development projects, particularly in SaaS or tech-driven environments.

Technical Expertise:

  • Deep knowledge of modern development languages and frameworks (e.g., Java, Node.js, Angular, Ionic, PostgreSQL).

  • Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, and DevOps methodologies (CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes, etc.).

  • Proven ability to architect, build, and scale large systems and platforms.

Leadership & Communication Skills:

  • Strong leadership, team-building, and change management capabilities.

  • Strategic thinker with a bias for action and problem-solving.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate complex technical issues to diverse audiences.
