Job Summary
We are seeking a competent and experienced Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Officer to ensure compliance with occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations within our manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years experience in the manufacturing sector, strong knowledge of HSE standards, and a proven track record of implementing safety policies, conducting risk assessments, and promoting a safety-first culture. This role requires excellent leadership, attention to detail, and the ability to engage staff at all levels to foster safe work practices.
Key Responsibilities
1. Compliance & Regulation

Ensure adherence to all applicable health, safety, and environmental laws, regulations, and industry standards.

Monitor and enforce compliance with internal safety policies and procedures.
2. Risk Assessment & Hazard Management
-
Identify workplace hazards and assess risks across all operations.

Develop and implement corrective and preventive safety measures.
3. Policy Development & Implementation
-
Establish, update, and implement HSE policies, safe work procedures, and operational guidelines.

Ensure alignment with ISO standards and industry best practices.
4. Training & Safety Awareness
-
Organize regular HSE training, drills, and awareness programs for employees.

Provide toolbox talks and orientation for new staff and contractors.
5. Incident & Accident Management
-
Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses.

Identify root causes, prepare reports, and recommend corrective actions.
6. Audits & Inspections
-
Conduct regular HSE inspections, audits, and risk assessments.

Monitor work areas and equipment to ensure safe operations.
7. Emergency Preparedness

Develop and implement emergency response plans.

Coordinate drills to ensure readiness for fire, chemical spills, and other emergencies.
8. Safety Culture & Employee Engagement

Promote a proactive safety culture across all departments.

Act as a role model for safety leadership, encouraging staff compliance.
9. Documentation & Reporting

Maintain accurate records of incidents, audits, trainings, and HSE compliance.

Prepare detailed reports for management and regulatory bodies.
Qualifications & Requirements

Education: Bachelors degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years as an HSE Officer within the manufacturing or industrial sector (experience in metal/mineral manufacturing is a strong advantage).

Certifications: HSE Level 1, 2 & 3; NEBOSH, ISO 45001, or equivalent safety certifications (mandatory).

Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of Nigerian and international HSE standards, regulations, and best practices.

Technical Skills:

Strong ability to conduct risk assessments and safety audits.

Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and documentation.
