Salary Budget: ₦800,000 – ₦1,000,000 (Monthly Gross)

Job Summary

The Director of Accounts is responsible for leading and overseeing all accounting operations of the hospital, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and compliance in financial reporting and record-keeping. The role provides strategic oversight of accounting processes, strengthens internal controls, and ensures adherence to regulatory and statutory requirements.

Working closely with the Medical Director, CFO, COO, and Board of Directors, the Director of Accounts will drive excellence in financial reporting, general ledger management, and compliance, while supporting informed decision-making through accurate financial data and insights.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting

  • Oversee the preparation of accurate, timely, and compliant financial statements in line with applicable accounting standards.
  • Ensure effective management of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations.
  • Maintain integrity of accounting records and enforce proper documentation and audit trails.
  • Prepare periodic financial reports, schedules, and dashboards for management and Board review.
  • Supervise month-end and year-end closing processes.

Compliance, Controls & Audit

  • Establish and maintain strong internal control systems to safeguard assets and ensure financial accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations including PAYE, Pension, NSITF, ITF, VAT, and other applicable requirements.
  • Coordinate internal and external audits and ensure timely resolution of audit queries and findings.
  • Monitor adherence to accounting policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.

Budgeting & Cost Monitoring

  • Support the development and implementation of budgets in collaboration with the finance leadership team.
  • Track actual performance against budget and provide variance analysis.
  • Implement cost monitoring and control mechanisms to enhance financial discipline.
  • Work with departmental heads to ensure adherence to approved budgets.

Financial Data Management & Reporting Systems

  • Ensure optimal use of accounting systems and ERP platforms (including Hyella).
  • Drive continuous improvement in accounting processes, systems, and reporting efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate financial databases and reporting frameworks.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and supervise the accounting team to ensure high performance and professional development.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and ethical financial practices.
  • Provide training and guidance on accounting standards and internal processes.

Stakeholder Support

  • Provide accurate financial information and analysis to support executive decision-making.
  • Collaborate with the CFO and COO on financial and operational reporting requirements.
  • Support transparency in financial reporting to management and key stakeholders.

Qualifications & Experience

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Master's Degree in Finance or a related field is an added advantage.
  • Professional certification (ACA, ACCA) is strongly preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 15 years of professional experience, with at least 5 years in a senior accounting leadership role.
  • Prior experience within a hospital or healthcare environment is a strong advantage.
  • Strong background in financial reporting, accounting operations, and compliance.
  • Hands-on experience with Hyella software is required.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of accounting standards and financial reporting frameworks.
  • High proficiency in general ledger management and financial controls.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Office tools.
  • High level of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail.
