ABOUT THE ROLE
Our client is seeking an experienced and results-driven Project Manager to lead the planning, execution and delivery of major construction and infrastructure projects.
The successful candidate will manage projects from planning and mobilisation through construction, completion and handover, ensuring delivery within approved timelines, budgets, quality standards, safety requirements and regulatory guidelines.
The role will particularly support projects across healthcare facilities, student accommodation, retail developments, sports complexes, commercial developments and related infrastructure projects.
The ideal candidate must have strong technical and commercial knowledge, proven project leadership experience, excellent stakeholder-management capabilities and a demonstrated ability to deliver complex construction projects successfully.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Project Leadership & Execution
- Lead construction and infrastructure projects from planning through completion and handover.
- Define project objectives, scope, milestones, deliverables and execution strategies.
- Coordinate project activities to achieve approved timelines, quality and commercial objectives.
- Monitor project performance and implement corrective actions where required.
2. Planning & Programme Management
- Develop and manage project schedules, milestones and delivery programmes.
- Monitor critical-path activities and identify potential delays.
- Develop recovery plans for programme slippages.
- Coordinate with engineering, construction, quantity surveying and technical teams.
- Utilise MS Project, Primavera P6 or equivalent project management tools.
3. Budget & Resource Management
- Develop and monitor project budgets in collaboration with the Quantity Surveyor and management.
- Ensure efficient utilisation of labour, materials, plant and equipment.
- Monitor project expenditure and identify potential cost overruns.
- Support cost-control measures, variations and contractor payment assessments.
4. Contractor & Consultant Management
- Manage contractors, subcontractors, consultants and specialist vendors.
- Monitor performance against contractual obligations, programme, specifications and quality standards.
- Review contractor work programmes and construction methodologies.
- Address performance issues and ensure timely corrective action.
5. Stakeholder Management
- Act as a key liaison between management, clients, consultants, contractors and regulatory authorities.
- Lead project, technical and progress meetings.
- Maintain effective communication and stakeholder relationships.
- Escalate significant project risks and decisions requiring management intervention.
6. Regulatory Compliance & Permitting
- Ensure required permits, licences and statutory approvals are obtained.
- Monitor compliance with applicable construction and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with relevant authorities to minimise regulatory delays.
- Ensure project execution complies with approved designs, standards and contractual requirements.
7. Quality, HSE & Risk Management
- Ensure construction works comply with approved designs, specifications and quality standards.
- Monitor quality assurance and quality-control activities.
- Promote strict compliance with HSE requirements across project sites.
- Identify and mitigate technical, commercial, contractual, programme and operational risks.
- Ensure defects and non-conformities are promptly resolved.
8. Tendering & Contract Management
- Coordinate tendering activities, including bid preparation, evaluation and review.
- Support contract negotiations with contractors and suppliers.
- Monitor contractual performance throughout project execution.
- Ensure commercial and contractual interests of the organisation are protected.
9. Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare regular reports covering project progress, programme, cost, quality, HSE, risks and key issues.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, approvals, correspondence and change records.
- Present project updates and recommendations to senior management.
- Ensure proper documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
10. Team Leadership & Project Close-Out
- Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary project teams.
- Provide direction and performance guidance to engineers, site personnel and project staff.
- Coordinate testing, commissioning, snagging and completion activities.
- Ensure outstanding works and defects are resolved.
- Coordinate project handover and close-out documentation.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or HND in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
- COREN Certification is mandatory.
- PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent Project Management certification is required.
- Minimum 5 years of post-graduate experience in project management within the construction industry.
- Proven experience managing large-scale commercial, infrastructure or building projects from inception to completion.
- Demonstrated experience managing contractors, consultants and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Strong experience in project planning, budgeting, cost control, quality management, risk management and stakeholder coordination.
