ABOUT THE ROLE

Our client is seeking an experienced and results-driven Senior Construction Manager to provide technical, operational and commercial leadership across multiple major construction projects.

The successful candidate will oversee projects from mobilisation through construction, completion and handover, ensuring delivery in accordance with approved designs, specifications, contractual requirements, quality standards, budgets and timelines.

This is a senior site and project-delivery role requiring strong experience in multi-project construction management, contractor coordination, programme management, quality control, HSE, resource management, risk mitigation and stakeholder engagement.

The ideal candidate must demonstrate a proven track record of successfully delivering major building or infrastructure projects while effectively managing multidisciplinary teams and multiple contractors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Construction Planning & Execution

  • Lead the execution of multiple major construction projects from mobilisation to completion.
  • Develop and implement construction execution plans, methodologies, programmes and work schedules.
  • Coordinate activities across multiple project sites and ensure effective sequencing of works.
  • Monitor progress against approved programmes and implement recovery actions where required.
  • Ensure construction complies with approved drawings, specifications, method statements and contractual requirements.

2. Multi-Project Management

  • Manage multiple construction projects simultaneously, prioritising resources according to project requirements.
  • Monitor project progress, deliverables, risks, resources and performance.
  • Identify critical issues and provide timely recommendations to senior management.
  • Ensure manpower, equipment, materials and other resources are efficiently deployed across projects.

3. Contractor & Subcontractor Management

  • Manage the performance of main contractors, subcontractors, specialist vendors and suppliers.
  • Review contractor programmes, mobilisation plans and construction methodologies.
  • Monitor contractor performance against agreed timelines, quality standards and contractual obligations.
  • Identify underperformance and implement appropriate corrective actions.
  • Ensure contractors maintain adequate resources for effective project delivery.

4. Site Operations & Technical Supervision

  • Provide leadership to Project Engineers, Site Engineers, Site Managers and construction teams.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and progress reviews.
  • Identify technical constraints, construction challenges and potential delays.
  • Coordinate civil, structural, architectural, MEP and specialist works.
  • Ensure proper sequencing of activities to minimise delays, defects and rework.

5. Programme & Schedule Management

  • Develop, review and monitor detailed construction programmes.
  • Track milestones, critical-path activities and project completion dates.
  • Identify programme slippages and develop practical recovery plans.
  • Ensure contractors maintain realistic and achievable schedules.
  • Utilise MS Project, Primavera P6 or equivalent project planning tools.

6. Quality Management

  • Ensure construction works meet approved designs, specifications and applicable standards.
  • Implement and monitor quality-control processes across project sites.
  • Review inspection reports, testing results, snag lists and corrective actions.
  • Ensure defects and non-conformities are promptly addressed.
  • Promote a right-first-time construction culture.

7. Cost & Resource Management

  • Monitor construction expenditure and resource utilisation in collaboration with the Project Manager and Quantity Surveyor.
  • Ensure efficient utilisation of labour, materials, plant and equipment.
  • Identify potential cost overruns and escalate them promptly.
  • Support the assessment of variations, claims and contractor payment applications.
  • Identify opportunities for improved construction efficiency and cost control.

8. HSE & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with company HSE policies, applicable regulations and project safety requirements.
  • Promote a strong safety culture among employees, contractors and subcontractors.
  • Ensure risk assessments, toolbox meetings, permits and safety procedures are implemented.
  • Identify and escalate unsafe practices, incidents and significant HSE risks.
  • Ensure environmentally responsible construction practices.

9. Risk Management & Problem Solving

  • Identify construction, technical, programme, contractor and resource risks.
  • Develop practical mitigation and recovery strategies.
  • Resolve construction challenges proactively and escalate critical matters appropriately.
  • Maintain visibility of key project risks and mitigation actions.

10. Stakeholder Management

  • Coordinate effectively with the Head of Projects, Executive Director, Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors, Engineers, Architects, Consultants, Contractors, Clients and Regulatory Authorities.
  • Participate in technical reviews, site meetings and project progress meetings.
  • Ensure timely communication of construction issues, decisions and required actions.
  • Maintain productive professional relationships with project stakeholders.

11. Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare regular construction progress reports covering programme, resources, quality, HSE, risks and key issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of site activities, inspections, approvals, instructions and correspondence.
  • Provide management with timely and accurate information for decision-making.
  • Ensure construction documentation is properly maintained throughout the project lifecycle.

12. Completion & Handover

  • Coordinate project completion, snagging, testing and commissioning activities.
  • Ensure outstanding works and defects are closed within agreed timelines.
  • Coordinate as-built documentation and handover requirements.
  • Support the successful handover of completed projects to clients and relevant stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Bachelor's Degree or HND in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Building, Architecture, Construction Management or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 8 years of post-graduate experience in construction, project delivery or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years' proven experience managing multiple major construction projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrable experience managing projects from mobilisation through construction, completion and handover.
  • Proven experience managing main contractors, subcontractors, consultants and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering projects involving significant budgets, stakeholders and complex construction requirements.

Professional Certifications

  • COREN registration is highly preferred for Engineering candidates and may be required depending on project requirements.
  • ARCON registration is highly preferred for Architecture candidates and may be required depending on project requirements.
  • PMP, PRINCE2, Construction Management certification or equivalent is an advantage.
  • Relevant professional membership within the construction industry is an advantage.

COMPENSATION

Gross Salary: ₦642,000 Monthly
