JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a highly experienced Finance Manager to provide strategic and operational leadership for the Accounts and Finance Department within a healthcare environment. The role is responsible for financial planning, reporting, regulatory compliance, revenue optimization, and providing sound financial insights to support executive decision-making in a complex hospital setting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, develop, and implement robust financial policies, procedures, and internal controls for the Accounts and Finance Department.
- Develop, implement, and monitor financial policies and procedures in compliance with healthcare regulations, statutory requirements, and best practices.
- Prepare, review, and maintain accurate financial reports, including budgets, forecasts, cash flow statements, management accounts, and variance analyses.
- Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process in collaboration with clinical and non-clinical department heads, providing guidance on cost control and budget performance.
- Analyze hospital revenue cycles, billing systems, payer mix, and financial performance metrics to identify gaps, risks, and improvement opportunities.
- Ensure timely, accurate billing, collections, reconciliations, and revenue assurance across all hospital units.
- Monitor expenditure, control costs, and drive financial efficiency without compromising service quality.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop finance team members, promoting accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee payroll, statutory deductions, tax filings, and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Manage relationships with external auditors, regulators, banks, insurance partners, and other financial stakeholders.
- Lead audit processes and ensure prompt resolution of audit findings and compliance issues.
- Provide strategic financial analysis and recommendations to the Managing Director and senior leadership to support operational, capital, and investment decisions.
- Oversee day-to-day finance operations and manage subordinate staff performance against agreed KPIs.
- Support management with financial input for expansion projects, procurement decisions, and contract negotiations.
- Participate in institutional academic, compliance, and professional learning activities within scope of practice.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of seven (7) years relevant experience as a Finance Manager or in a senior finance role within a large hospital or healthcare institution.
- Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, Health Administration, or a related discipline.
- Masters degree in a relevant field is required.
- Mandatory membership of a recognized professional body such as ICAN or ANAN.
- CPA or CFA certification is an added advantage.
- Strong understanding of healthcare financial regulations, hospital operations, revenue cycles, and industry dynamics.
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and strong financial control systems.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills with strong attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including reporting to senior management and external stakeholders.
- High level of computer proficiency, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, spreadsheets, and hospital financial or ERP systems.
