Salary Budget: ₦800,000 – ₦900,000 (Monthly Gross)
License Requirement: Valid RN/RM license (current and in good standing)
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Director of Nursing Services to provide executive leadership and oversight of all nursing operations within a large, high-capacity hospital.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong clinical governance expertise, operational leadership, and advanced workforce management capabilities. This role requires a proven leader with experience managing large nursing teams in complex, high-volume healthcare environments, with a strong focus on patient safety, quality outcomes, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
1. Clinical & Patient Care Leadership
- Provide strategic leadership for the delivery of safe, high-quality, and patient-centred nursing care across all clinical units
- Coordinate multidisciplinary care delivery in collaboration with physicians and other healthcare professionals
- Ensure strict adherence to clinical governance, patient safety, and quality standards
- Promote a culture of excellence in patient experience, staff engagement, and service delivery
2. Nursing Operations & Workforce Management
- Provide leadership and oversight for a nursing workforce of 100+ clinical staff
- Manage nursing operations within a 250+ bed capacity hospital, ensuring optimal staffing and service coverage
- Oversee maternal and neonatal care services supporting 200+ deliveries, ensuring adherence to best practice standards
- Develop and implement effective staffing schedules, workforce planning, and shift rotations
- Supervise nurse managers, unit heads, and frontline nursing staff across all departments
- Ensure efficient allocation and utilisation of nursing resources to support operational efficiency
3. Policy Development, Quality & Compliance
- Develop, implement, and regularly review nursing policies, procedures, and clinical protocols
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention, patient safety standards, and regulatory requirements
- Drive continuous quality improvement initiatives across all nursing units
- Monitor key clinical performance indicators and implement corrective action plans where necessary
4. Training, Mentorship & Capacity Development
- Lead structured training, mentorship, and continuous professional development programmes for nursing staff
- Strengthen leadership capacity among nurse managers and unit supervisors
- Promote evidence-based practice and continuous clinical improvement across all units
5. Administrative & Financial Oversight
- Contribute to departmental budgeting, cost control, and resource planning
- Ensure optimal utilisation of nursing resources without compromising quality of care
- Provide regular operational reports covering staffing, performance, and service delivery metrics
6. Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as the primary liaison between the nursing department and executive leadership
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to improve clinical outcomes and service delivery
- Support hospital-wide strategic initiatives, transformation programmes, and quality accreditation efforts
Qualifications & Experience
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (B.Sc. Nursing)
- Valid Registered Nurse/Registered Midwife (RN/RM) licence
- Master's Degree in Nursing, Public Health, Healthcare Management, or related field (strongly preferred)
- Additional certifications in healthcare leadership, quality management, or hospital administration will be an added advantage
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years post-qualification nursing experience
- At least 10 years in senior managerial or leadership roles within hospital settings

Demonstrated experience managing:
- 100+ nursing and clinical staff
- 250+ bed capacity healthcare facility
- High-volume maternity services (200+ deliveries)
- Strong background in nursing operations, clinical governance, and workforce management
- Experience in tertiary or high-volume healthcare institutions is essential
- Exposure to international accreditation standards (e.g., JCI) is an added advantage
