£60-£65 Per Hour

We are looking for a skilled and experienced Food Team Leader (or Principal EHO) to support the effective delivery of food safety functions and provide leadership across the service. This is a hybrid role, blending operational oversight with frontline technical delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a small team of Food Safety Officers and Technical Officers, overseeing inspection programmes and workload allocation.
  • Carry out complex and high-risk food hygiene inspections and investigations.
  • Provide technical leadership on food law, giving advice and guidance to officers and management.
  • Review casework, notices, and enforcement actions to ensure consistency, legal compliance, and service quality.
  • Manage service requests, complaints, and serious incidents, ensuring timely and proportionate responses.
  • Support the development and monitoring of performance KPIs, risk-based planning, and service audits.
  • Contribute to training, internal procedures, and ongoing service improvements.

Requirements:

  • Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health.
  • EHRB registration or alternative qualification meeting current FLCOP standards.
  • Strong experience in local authority food safety enforcement.
  • Prior experience supervising or leading food safety teams is highly desirable.
  • Excellent knowledge of food law, inspection standards, and enforcement processes.
  • Confident communicator, with sound judgement and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
