Role Purpose:
Leads, plans, and coordinates the study stages of capital or closure projects, including the management of all technical commercial, and license-to-operate areas. Accountable for safe and successful delivery of the study and its business case by ensuring.
Professionals requiring knowledge and experience in their own technical or professional discipline. Solves a range of problems using largely defined procedures and solutions. Receives a moderate level of guidance and direction.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Defines Studies (project) scope in accordance with stakeholder requirements, including milestones and budgets, and manages Study approvals from appropriate parties
- Develop estimates and plans to manage the end-to-end project execution and implement Study guidelines in accordance with the approved scope which may involve multiple work streams and require coordination with multiple stakeholders across the company.
- Responsible for tracking Study (project) status and managing issues and risks.
- Prepares comprehensive reports and presentations summarizing the results of the Study
- Monitors and reports all relevant Study performance indicators to meet business requirements.
- Identifies and escalates any Study (project) delivery performance issues in a timely manner.
- Compiles and analyses data for management reporting and metrics.
- Delivers Study in accordance with the approved scope.
- Develop and implement an effective stakeholder engagement plan throughout the life of the Study (project).
- Monitors, manages and reports all relevant Study performance indicators to meet business requirements.
- Maintains relationships with key stakeholders to drive a culture of collaboration, participation and improvement. Engages with key stakeholders, including project sponsors, asset owners, and cross-functional teams, to gather input, share findings, provide relevant updates, and gain buy-in for project recommendations.
- Provides expert technical support and direction to Study (project) stakeholders, building on and sharing the lessons learned.
- Manages a small studies (project) team and oversees external study contractors/ or consultants to ensure the delivery of studies within agreed timelines, scope, cost, and quality criteria.
- Collaborates with financial experts to perform high-level financial analyses, including cash flow projections, return on investment (ROI), and net present value (NPV) calculations.
Contract Length: 12 months
General Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mining and Tailings Engineering or a related field; and an MBA is preferred in addition to an Engineering background.
- Solid understanding of project management methodologies and tools.
- Proven experience in managing studies, especially capital projects.
- Strong background in engineering studies and construction projects within the mining or resource sectors, specifically in tailings design and management.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with project teams, cross-functional teams, and stakeholders, and influence.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a strategic mindset.
- Experience with SharePoint, Microsoft Excel, project management software, Power BI analysis and reporting tools
- Over 5 years of experience in study and project management, with a focus on capital projects and tailings management.
- Familiarity with tailings disposal methods, water management practices, and relevant regulations and compliance standards.
- Knowledge of best practices for tailings storage facility (TSF) design, operation, and closure.
