About the Role

We are looking for a technically capable and hands-on Automation Specialist to join a growing, digitally focused business.

This is a remote position, but applicants must be based in Cape Town.

The successful candidate will be responsible for building, managing and improving business automation workflows, with a particularly strong focus on WhatsApp bots and WhatsApp-based automation.

This role would suit someone who enjoys finding ways to remove repetitive manual processes, connecting different platforms and building reliable automated workflows that improve customer engagement and internal efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain automated business workflows.
• Build, configure and manage WhatsApp bots and WhatsApp automation.
• Develop automated customer communication and engagement journeys.
• Integrate WhatsApp with CRM, lead management and other business systems.
• Create automated workflows between different applications and platforms.
• Map existing manual processes and identify opportunities for automation.
• Build triggers, actions, routing rules and automated notifications.
• Troubleshoot failed automations, integration issues and workflow errors.
• Test new workflows thoroughly before implementation.
• Monitor existing automations and continuously improve performance and reliability.
• Maintain clear documentation of automation processes and integrations.
• Work with internal stakeholders to understand operational requirements and translate them into practical automation solutions.
• Assist with the implementation and optimisation of new automation tools and technologies.
• Ensure customer data is handled accurately and securely throughout automated processes.

Essential Requirements

Applicants must have:

• Proven hands-on experience working in automation, workflow automation or business process automation.
• Practical experience building and managing WhatsApp bots or WhatsApp automation – non-negotiable.
• Experience integrating WhatsApp with other systems, platforms or workflows.
• Strong understanding of triggers, workflows, APIs, webhooks and system integrations.
• Experience with automation/integration platforms or comparable technologies.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve automation and integration problems independently.
• Strong technical problem-solving ability.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Must currently be based in Cape Town.

Advantageous Experience

Experience with any of the following would be beneficial:

• WhatsApp Business Platform / WhatsApp Business API.
• Chatbot development and conversational automation.
• CRM automation.
• Lead-generation and lead-nurturing workflows.
• API and webhook integrations.
• No-code or low-code automation platforms such as Make, Zapier or n8n.
• AI-powered workflow or chatbot automation.
• Automated sales and customer-service processes.
• Marketing automation.
• Database or spreadsheet integrations.

Ideal Candidate

You are practical, technically curious and comfortable getting hands-on with automation tools. You don't simply understand automation conceptually — you have actually built workflows and WhatsApp bots that are used in a real business environment.

You are able to understand a business problem, determine where automation can improve the process, build the solution and troubleshoot it when something goes wrong.

You are organised, self-motivated and comfortable working remotely while taking ownership of your responsibilities.
