About the job Farm Manager


Specific responsibilities

  • Responsible for the efficient and quality production of vegetables, fruit, and other crops through effective management of farm resources, including labor and machinery.
  • Determine the crop mix, agronomically and financially. Determine the amount and kinds of crops to be grown.
  • Analyzing existing operations, crops, staff, and financial documents and recommending improvements. Reduce unnecessary costs, and achieve optimal production.
  • Coordinating the marketing and sale of products produced on the farm.
  • Lead the partnership with PepsiCo through producing and supplying maize and potato. Prepare strategic, operational, and sales plans and budgets for the farm.
  • Ensuring seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and other supplies are regularly restocked.
  • Scheduling repairs, maintenance, and replacement of equipment and machinery.
  • Preparing plans and schedules for planting and harvesting and ensuring staff understand expectations. Lead the recruitment and training of new staff members.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with finance and administration, operation and, corporate staff. Ensuring all staff adhere to health and safety regulations
  • Building professional networks and keeping abreast of developments in agricultural science.
  • Visiting the different divisions to inspect crops, and also perform tests on soil and water.
  • Ensure farm laborers' productivity and achieve optimal yield of each crop grown in the farm. Develop and build relationships with vendors and suppliers, especially with the Development Bank of Ethiopia. Reporting to the CEO and performing additional farming duties when required.

Educational background

  • Someone with a passion for farm business management, a background in agriculture, business, and finance, a strong background in profit-making companies in horticulture production and export, and a track record in finances, human resources, and organizational development.
  • BA/ BSC in plant science/agriculture/agribusiness/agroeconomics/management/ business administration, with a minimum of 10 years in a leadership and management role of which 5 years should be in a farm management position.
  • Proven experience in budget, team, and finance management
  • Experience in the commercial farm
  • Certificate in finance, project management has the advantage.
  • Reporting to the Deputy CEO, Agribusiness

  • Organizational Development: Ability to think creatively about staffing and organizational structure. Human Resources: Experience managing performance reviews and evaluations, as well as implementing HR policies and serving as a resource for staff.
