Purpose of this position
The Advisor, Health, Safety, Security and Environment is responsible for the administration and support of the health, safety and environmental programs for our client
Key responsibilities
Assist in the implementation of standardized HSSE systems, programs, policies, training, campaigns and
programs to prevent injury and ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
Collaborate with team (all functions) to standardize HSSE processes across the business units when possible.
Assist in the development and implementation in SE improvement plans aligned with the regional strategy and requirements.
Audit HSSE programs to reduce loss, recommending and implementing actions for improvement.
Create a network of internal and external alliances to implement policies, programs, procedures, standards, training and processes.
Ensure incident prevention/abatement through detailed injury and incident reporting, data analysis and investigation compliance. Implement standardized, actionable HSE metrics and communication
Generic Accountabilities
Promote and demonstrate positive behaviours in harmony with organizations principles.
Establish effective leadership and participation in the HSEMS through demonstration and display of safety behaviours.
Actively communicate the HSEMS requirements with shift managers, foreman, contractors, and workers.
Participate in the review and development of materials and documentations in the HSEMS.
Work in accordance with the Security Management System, including the immediate reporting of any suspicious activities to senior management and/or the Security Officer.
Understand the consequences related to inappropriate conduct or behaviour or disregard for safety and security programs, policies and procedures.
Ensure workers under your direction are properly trained and educated to perform their duties.
Ensure that operations comply with both the law and the HSEMS.
Conduct regular inspections of the workplace and correct unsafe conditions and behaviours.
Ensure that personnel under your direction have a clear understanding of the discipline policy for dealing with consequences of inappropriate conduct or behaviour.
Ensure that the highest levels of safety are applied in all activities.
Understand and adhere to the company's Code of Conduct and Ethics policies.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Capabilities, Qualifications, Job Function, Technical Knowledge and Skills
Post-secondary training in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Sciences/ Hygiene or similar field.
Minimum 3 years in a similar role with experience coordinating Safety and/or Environment Programs; prior experience working in an industrial and/or unionized environment is an asset.
Willingness to take initiative to solve problems and a desire to identify process improvements.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build and maintain positive
working relationships and achieve buy in and ownership to quality standards/ initiatives with all departments and levels.
Sound judgement and analytical thinking that enables decision making, ability to manage projects and prioritize and manage timelines.
Self-starter with a positive, hands on approach and the ability to work as a team member.
Exceptional computer skills and ability to quickly learn new software.
Fluent in English.
Previous Canadian work experience or experience working directly with Canadian industries.
