Rural Staffing Services is seeking an experienced Director of Nursing Services (DNS) to lead the nursing department in a long-term care center in Oregon. The DNS will have administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability for ensuring the delivery of high-quality nursing care and maintaining compliance with state, federal, and local regulations. The ideal candidate will provide leadership and oversight for the nursing team, ensuring that standards of resident care are upheld for all age groups.

Position Summary:
The DNS will work closely with the facility Administrator to develop policies, maintain performance improvement activities, and ensure that the nursing staff remains in compliance with professional licensure and regulatory standards. The DNS is responsible for designing performance improvement projects, coordinating departmental functions, and acting as a resource for both nursing staff and other departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the delivery of evidence-based nursing care and maintain up-to-date nursing policies and procedures.
  • Oversee nursing personnel by recruiting, selecting, and orienting qualified staff.
  • Maintain professional development and compliance of nursing staff through ongoing education and licensure tracking.
  • Implement quality improvement initiatives, including infection control, safety audits, and performance evaluations.
  • Work closely with the facility Administrator on budgeting, staffing, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as a key resource during state surveys and assist with the creation of plans of correction when needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervise all nursing staff, including RN Care Managers, nursing assistants, and related departments.
  • Oversee scheduling, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
  • Hold regular staff meetings to discuss goals, address concerns, and provide ongoing education.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources on the hiring, training, and management of nursing personnel.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; MSN preferred.
  • Current Oregon RN Licensure.
  • At least six months of experience in a long-term care or nursing facility.
  • Proven leadership and management skills, with experience in nursing administration.
  • Strong knowledge of state and federal healthcare regulations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, residents, and family members.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BLS certification.
  • Experience in geriatric care and long-term care settings.
  • Oregon state law mandates that within nine months of employment, the DNS must complete six credit hours in management or supervision pertinent to long-term care or hold a BSN/MSN with management coursework.
