Rural Staffing Services is partnering with a respected rural healthcare organization in south-central Washington to recruit a Patient Access Supervisor.
This leadership role oversees the front door of the healthcare experience. Patient Access teams are often the first interaction patients have with the hospital or clinic, and this position helps ensure those experiences are welcoming, efficient, and compassionate.
This supervisor supports both hospital and rural clinic registration operations, ensuring accurate patient registration, strong customer service, and smooth coordination between patients, providers, and the revenue cycle team.
Position Overview
The Patient Access Supervisor manages the daily operations of the Patient Access department and leads the registration team responsible for patient admissions, insurance verification, scheduling coordination, and financial intake.
This role focuses on creating efficient processes, supporting staff development, resolving patient concerns, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise daily operations of the Patient Access department
Lead, train, and support patient access and registration staff
Manage staffing schedules and department workflow
Ensure accurate patient registration, insurance verification, and patient intake processes
Monitor department accuracy and performance metrics
Address and resolve patient concerns and registration issues
Oversee referral coordination and prior authorization processes when applicable
Conduct audits to ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards
Support collaboration between registration, clinical teams, and revenue cycle staff
Foster a positive team environment focused on service, accountability, and continuous improvement
Qualifications
Education
High school diploma or GED required
Associate degree preferred
Certifications
Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) required
Certified Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM) required within one year of hire
Experience
Minimum two years of patient access or registration experience
At least one year of supervisory or leadership experience
Experience in a Critical Access Hospital or rural healthcare setting strongly preferred
Skills and Abilities
Strong knowledge of patient registration, admissions, and insurance verification processes
Understanding of HIPAA regulations, medical records processes, and EMTALA requirements
Familiarity with revenue cycle operations including billing and reimbursement workflows
Strong leadership, communication, and team development skills
Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Proficiency with electronic medical record systems and Microsoft Office tools
