The Opportunity

We are seeking a Director of Laboratory Services to lead and oversee all laboratory operations within a well-respected healthcare organization in the Pacific Northwest. This role provides strategic and operational leadership across multiple laboratory disciplines while working closely with physicians, clinical leaders, and hospital administration to ensure the highest standards of quality, safety, and service.

This position is ideal for a collaborative, forward-thinking laboratory leader who enjoys mentoring teams, improving systems, and building sustainable laboratory services that support patient care and organizational growth.

  • Full-time, on-site

  • Day shift

  • Coastal Washington location

Compensation

  • Hourly range: $49.00 – $74.00

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership, direction, and planning for all laboratory services

  • Establish departmental goals, policies, and operational priorities aligned with organizational objectives

  • Develop and manage operating and capital budgets for laboratory services

  • Partner with physicians, pathologists, and clinical leaders to evaluate testing needs and develop appropriate testing panels

  • Oversee laboratory operations across chemistry, hematology, blood bank, microbiology, and phlebotomy

  • Supervise laboratory leadership including supervisors and lead technologists

  • Maintain and update laboratory policies and procedures, ensuring annual review and staff compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accrediting agencies including CAP, CLIA, FDA, OSHA, and other applicable standards

  • Lead quality control initiatives and continuous quality improvement efforts

  • Oversee laboratory information systems and reporting, including Meditech

  • Support business development initiatives related to laboratory services

Operational and Administrative Leadership

  • Manage exempt and non-exempt laboratory staff

  • Ensure accurate staffing, scheduling, and timekeeping approvals

  • Oversee purchasing, capital equipment planning, service contracts, billing, and reimbursement processes

  • Maintain employee credentialing, certifications, competency records, and performance evaluations

  • Ensure compliance with infection control practices, safety regulations, and specialized testing requirements

  • Promote a culture of professionalism, accountability, and collaboration across the laboratory team

Leadership Expectations

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced education with completion of an approved Medical Technology program

  • Minimum of five years of progressive laboratory experience

  • Minimum of two years of supervisory or management experience

  • Certification by ASCP or NCA preferred

  • CLIA regulatory education required for work in a complex laboratory

  • Washington State certification as a Medical Assistant Phlebotomist

  • Current Basic Life Support certification
