Quality Engineer
About the job Quality Engineer
1. Manage all quality-related issues within the manufacturing team (e.g. internal, supplier, customer and customer warranty) Identify root cause and instigate permanent corrective actions for product quality issues
2. Work with internal and external stakeholders to resolve quality issues that arise as quickly and efficiently as possible to prevent compromising quality and safety standards
3. Carry out product and process auditing
4. Ensure control plans and associated documentation are implemented effectively and maintained
5. Monitor and report on quality-related key performance indicators including scrap monitoring, rework levels, parts per million (PPM) figures
6. Stop production in the event of manufacture of unacceptable goods/processes
7. Ensure compliance and assist with adherence to the Quality Management system (TS16949/ISO9001)
8. Write product test procedures
9. Undertake special projects as required
10. Assist with training of quality awareness
11. Report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in order to adhere to process and prevent occurrence of any non-conformity relating to product, process or system
12. Assist with first off sample approvals
13. Promote the use of customer preferred techniques for continuous improvement such as Six-Sigma, Poka-Yoke (Error Proofing), and Measurement System Analysis
14. Participate in cross-functional teams in the development of new products or changes related to current products in meeting customer requirements
15. Participate in the development and refinement of Design and Process FMEA’s (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)
16. Manage the Supplier Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
17. Manage and coordinate customer PPM (Parts per Million), supplier PPM, supplier problem solving on time, cost recovery and supplier warranty indicators
18. Lead quality audits
19. Keep up with current and developing manufacturing and engineering trends that concern product quality
20. Undertake special projects as required
21. Contribute to continuous improvement activities
22. Quality control of work by appropriate reviews
23. Support and lead process improvement activities
24. Write reports and present progress at project meetings and to clients
25. Achieve goals within budget
26. Conduct benchmarking studies to determine best practices/designs and future trends
27. Plan projects or subtasks so they may be tracked and presented
28. Attend various meetings and action/communicate instructions
29. Produce written reports and make presentations
30. Undertake continuous training and development
31. Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems
32. Independently determine approach and assigned tasks
People Management
1. Lead and/or support groups of technicians and engineers
2. Provide guidance to other team members
3. Train both team and broader organisation members
Financial Budget & Control
1. Input and hold responsibility for quality budgets
2. Prepare the annual Quality budget and forecasts and all Capital Expenditure proposals as well as ensuring compliance with legal standards. Manage the budget from identification to completion of projects
Relationship Management
1. Support regular inspection meetings with representatives from appropriate departments to establish an action plan for improving build quality
2. Communicate efficiently throughout the shop floor and with own and customer’s management
3. Liaise and communicate with other departments, customers, suppliers and other service providers

Education / skill and requirement
1. Relevant business/commercial or manufacturing/engineering degree preferred, or equivalent
2. Membership of an industry related Professional Body would be advantageous
3. Previous experience in a high volume manufacturing environment, preferably automotive
4. Experience of working in Quality Assurance
5. Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing skills
6. Experience of dealing with customers and suppliers
