Core Scanning Operator

About the company:

A leading mining multinational mining and metals corporation involved in the exploration, mining, and processing of mineral resources and leader in sustainable and responsible mining practices. Its exploration division is currently focused on early-stage lithium exploration in Rwanda.

Job Purpose:

This role entails supporting implementation and ongoing operation of new geoscience technology for use on early-stage lithium exploration in Rwanda working as part of a project team in Kigali and supported by technical specialists. This role will primarily be involved with preparation of exploration drill core, data quality control and scanning process at Rio Tinto Kigali Core Yard currently located in the Special Economic Zone.

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for preparing exploration drill core for scanning involving some manual handling and cleaning.
• Operation of range of applications to facilitate scanning of the drill core and monitor data quality.
• Prompt communication of issues with data quality.
• Identification of more efficient ways of working whilst working alongside the project team and ensure data quality remains high.

Qualifications and Experience:

• A keen interest in geoscience, mineral exploration and a willingness to work with the development of a new technology.
• Strong computer skills desired with proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and open to learning new software tools.
• Ability to communicate technical or logistical issues and offer suggestions for improvement.
• Strong attention to detail for checking quality of data output.
• Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively within a small team.
• Comfortable working in a dynamic worksite environment.
• Strong work ethic and commitment to highest levels of safety in the workplace.
• A geoscience or equivalent degree-level qualification.
