The Senior Electrical Engineer reports currently to the Vice President, Product Development Engineering. This individual plays a key role in designing, developing, and implementing Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). 

This role requires deep expertise in high voltage electrical systems (1000VDC+ and 480VAC+), along with strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, customers, and stakeholders. This individual works on projects involving electrical power systems and should have experience with motor drives, solar PV, or related energy storage applications to develop innovative, efficient, and scalable solutions.

Responsibilities:

Assist in the development of system architectures for the next generation of Energy Storage Systems (ESS) and mobility products.

Design and develop high-voltage electrical systems for BESS applications.

Specify and evaluate components such as inverters, transformers, switchgear, and protection systems for energy storage.

Conduct system modeling, simulation, and performance analysis to ensure optimal efficiency and reliability.

Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and safety codes (e.g., NEC, IEEE, IEC, UL, NFPA 70E). Perform power system studies, including load flow analysis, short-circuit analysis, arc flash studies, and grounding studies.

Develop single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and schematics for electrical power systems.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical, software, and controls engineers to integrate energy storage systems with grid infrastructure.

Support installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities for deployed systems.

Stay updated with emerging technologies, best practices, and advancements in BESS and high-voltage applications.

Adhere to federal and state regulations.

Adhere to all company policies, processes, and procedures.

Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

Position Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in electrical engineering or equivalent degree.

Masters degree preferred.

Minimum of seven (7) years experience in electrical system design or a minimum of five (5) years experience in product development for complex projects.

Expertise in high-voltage power systems (1000VDC+ and 480VAC+), power electronics, and circuit design.

Proficiency in power system modeling and analysis tools (e.g., ETAP, PSCAD, MATLAB/Simulink).

Experience with lithium-ion battery systems, validation testing, and regulatory compliance.

Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.

Ability to work in small teams with limited resources and contribute to ground-up designs.

Experience in renewable energy, microgrids, or utility-scale power systems, preferred.

1500V design experience preferred.

Familiarity with SCADA, PLCs, and automation systems preferred.

Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility preferred.

Passion for continuous improvement and innovation.

Fluent in English (spoken, written, and presentation) required.

Ability to travel domestically and internationally, up to 15%.
