 Job Description:

Senior Estimator Rail Infrastructure, Drainage & Civils UK-wide (regular travel and site visits required) Permanent | Competitive salary + package

On behalf of a well-established principal contractor with a strong order book in the UK rail sector, we are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to play a pivotal role in their continued growth.

The Opportunity You will take ownership of producing accurate, competitive and winning bids for civil engineering, drainage and multi-disciplinary rail projects typically ranging from £500k to £5m. Working collaboratively within bid teams, you will help shape tender strategy, identify commercial opportunities and risks, and deliver submissions that balance technical excellence with profitability.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Leading the preparation of detailed estimates following established in-house processes
  • Coordinating and mentoring junior members of the estimating team on larger bids
  • Engaging early with design, planning, commercial and operations colleagues to agree methodologies and build robust pricing
  • Highlighting opportunities, risks and key assumptions throughout the tender period
  • Presenting estimates confidently at internal settlement/adjudication meetings
  • Producing comprehensive handover documentation and providing post-award support to delivery teams
  • Contributing to business development by supplying indicative pricing and technical input

What They Are Looking For From You

  • Proven background in estimating for rail-related civils, drainage or utilities works
  • Demonstrable success on tenders up to £5m (ideally within a principal contractor environment)
  • Strong commercial or engineering qualifications; chartered/incorporated status (or working towards) would be advantageous
  • Advanced Excel skills and hands-on experience with industry-recognised estimating packages
  • Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication abilities comfortable presenting at senior level to both internal stakeholders and clients
  • In-depth knowledge of current rail standards, construction techniques and temporary works requirements
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel extensively for site visits and client meetings
