PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE JOB (SUMMARY)

• To uphold health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards for integrated waste management activities on-site.

• To implement and monitor compliance with HSE policies, environmental regulations, and health standards diligently.

• To promote a safe, sustainable, and legally compliant work environment.

• To ensure Rent-A-Drum’s operations align with Rossing Uranium Mine's safety and environmental performance objectives as part of the Environmental Department.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Safety Activities

Deliver monthly reports, enhance safety training, conduct inspections, and identify at-risk behavior. Support risk assessments, emergency response, and injury rehabilitation. Perform audits, lead safety meetings, and promote a safety-first culture. Monitor action items from incidents, conduct inspections, and ensure safety notice boards are up-to-date.

Critical Performance Indicators

Ensure the training database is up-to-date, focusing on risk management, emergency response, safe work practices, and proper hazardous waste handling. Maintain the validity of fleet and employee certifications and actively advise on strategies to reduce Rent-A-Drum’s carbon footprint in line with Rossing’s sustainability goals.

Accident and Incident Controls

Identify key risks and impacts, support emergency response and contingency plans, and maintain accurate records of HSE activities, incidents, inspections, audits, and environmental compliance. Compile detailed reports and key statistics for management and regulatory submissions.

Continuous Improvement

Identify and recommend continuous improvements in HSE practices, staying current with regulatory changes, industry best practices, and technological advancements in mining safety and environmental management.

Inspections and Investigations

Conduct inspections to identify hazards and recommend improvements with actionable plans. Analyze safety incident data to identify risks and create corrective action plans. Organize investigations, gather data, and determine root causes, recommending actions to prevent future incidents.

Emergency Preparedness and Response

Regularly review emergency response plans and coordinate drills and simulations to ensure preparedness and enhance response capabilities.

Rossing KPIs

Ensure Rent-A-Drum meets and exceeds Rossing’s monthly KPI targets, and develop Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for new tasks to ensure alignment with Rent-A-Drum and Rossing safety standards.

Skills & Attributes

Experienced in Safety Management systems, safety incident investigations, and training material development. Proficient in MS Office with strong communication skills, emergency response, and hazard/risk assessments. Knowledgeable in inspections, auditing, and skilled in problem-solving, planning, and teamwork. Focused on results and upholding ethics and values (e.g., i-CARE).

ADHOC Tasks

Any ad hoc work related task assigned to the incumbent by management.



QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or Risk Management, or related field/ NQA 7 Equivalent or Grade 12

• NEBOSH IGC or SAMTRAC will be added advantage

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in HSE management, preferably within the mining, industrial, or production sectors.

• Working knowledge of ISO 45001, 9001, and 14001.

• Familiarity with national and international legislation (e.g., Labour Act Nr. 11 of 2007, HS Regulation 156).

• Completion of safety short courses (e.g., ICAM, ISO 45001 implementation, lead auditing).

• Prior experience with environmental and waste management systems and processes is essential.

• Familiarity with operations at the Rossing site will be an advantage

• Experience with hazardous substances and chemicals is advantageous.

• Experience with radioactive materials or transport is advantageous.

• A valid B license is required, along with eligibility to obtain a driver’s license specific to Rossing Mine requirements.
