PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
- To lead and manage the operational teams responsible for Total Integrated Waste Management within a mining environment.
- To oversee the planning, coordination, processing, disposal, and treatment of waste, as well as the management of transfer station operations.
- To ensure the efficient functioning of the waste management system, with a strong focus on operational effectiveness, health and safety compliance, and environmental sustainability.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational Management
Manage daily waste operations, making sure resources are used well and operations follow regulations and client environmental plans.
Asset Management & Maintenance
Ensure the fleet and equipment are properly maintained and operational, addressing any mechanical issues without delay.
Security – Risk Assessment
Conduct risk assessments, manage security services, and ensure accurate time tracking using the Electronic Clocking System.
Health and Safety
Ensure health and safety programs are in place and followed, in line with the safety requirements specific to the mining industry.
Logistics Management
Oversee fleet operations, ensuring the correct handling of hazardous waste and following safety protocols.
Financial Management
Manage financial tasks like budgeting, controlling expenses, and keeping track of capital assets on site.
Strategic Leadership & Planning
Assist with planning and identify growth opportunities for waste management operations.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
Serve as a point of contact for clients and assist in preparing reports and updates for stakeholders.
Environmental Compliance
Ensure all waste management practices comply with environmental regulations and promote sustainable practices.
QUALIFICATION AND RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Waste Management, or a related field (preferred but not mandatory) or Grade 12.
• Minimum of 5 years' experience in waste/liquid/sanitation management operations, with strong knowledge of waste strategies and management concepts.
• Practical experience in equipment operation and hands-on work.
• Strong client relationships and management with sales background will be an advantage.
• Experience in a mining environment is an advantage.
• Experience in managing daily operations in waste or sanitation management, including client relations and sales.
• Proven leadership in production or operational environments within the waste management sector.
• Recent Police Certificate of Conduct, medical fitness, and the ability to meet the physical demands of the mine site work.
• Computer literacy will be an advantage
