About the Role
The Payroll & Benefits Manager will oversee accurate, compliant, and timely multi-state payroll processing while managing firmwide benefits programs and driving continuous process improvement.
This role ensures full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and plays a key role in delivering a seamless employee experience across payroll, benefits, and reporting functions.
HYBRID ROLE - 3 DAYS ONSITE
Responsibilities

Manage end-to-end multi-state payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely execution.

Oversee administration of firmwide benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, FSA/HSA, life insurance, disability, 401(k), and leave programs.

Serve as the primary liaison with payroll and benefits vendors.

Lead annual open enrollment planning and employee communications.

Conduct regular payroll and benefits audits to ensure data integrity and compliance.

Monitor and implement updates related to federal, state, and local wage and tax laws.

Support compensation-related reporting including W-2 processing, ACA filings, 401(k) compliance testing, and audit preparation.

Provide responsive and professional employee support for payroll and benefits inquiries.

Collaborate with HR and Finance leadership on system enhancements, reporting improvements, and firmwide initiatives.

Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
Must-Haves
-
5+ years of payroll and benefits experience (law firm or professional services experience strongly preferred).

Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll regulations and experience managing employees across multiple jurisdictions.

Proficiency with payroll/HRIS systems (ADP preferred) and advanced Excel skills.

Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail.

Strong communication and interpersonal abilities with a collaborative mindset.

Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
Preferred Certifications: CPP, PHR, SHRM-CP, or related certification.
