Pay Rate to candidates: $45-50/hr

Job Description

Prepares and coordinates the plans and schedules for new or existing programs. Determines, monitors, and reviews costs, operational budgets and schedules, and manpower requirements. Supports and participates in negotiations with customer. Analyzes effects of projects upon various areas such as Engineering, Facilities, and the labor pool to determine the most practical and cost-efficient methods to obtain the required resources. Resolves proposal preparation problems and assesses the progress against established plans and parameters. Formulates and recommends corrective action measures such as schedule revisions, manpower adjustments, fund allocations, and work requirements.

The positions serves as the Mechanical System Engineer for the Utilities Engineering group. It requires a subject matter expert (SME) providing technical oversight for various mechanical utility distribution systems and plants. The Mechanical System Engineer is required to develop a cohesive working relationship with utility system operators and maintenance personnel. The candidate should have extensive knowledge of piping principles, centrifugal pumps and water distribution systems.

The candidates day-to-day responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

o Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues within assigned utility system(s) o Provide engineering resolutions for system problems/configuration changes o Produce and/or oversee the development of technical documentation that govern the system design, configuration, and operation.

o Develop a long range strategic plan for improvements to assigned utility system(s) o Participate in the development of planned maintenance requirements o Support resolution of unplanned events o Develop and maintain critical system metrics o Participate in project design and implementation process for system related projects o Oversee project/system testing to ensure system meets technical requirements and operates at peak performance

Basic Qualifications

Bachelors Degree and 10 years of experience. Masters Degree and 8 years of experience. 4 years of related exempt experience can be substituted for Bachelors degree. 8 years of non-related exempt experience can be substituted for Bachelors degree. An Apprentice Certificate or graduation from Navy Nuclear Power School can be substituted for Bachelors degree. Mechanical Engineering degree with a Professional Engineering (PE) license, or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) working towards PE registration, is preferred. Knowledge of ASME codes and experience with heavy industrial mechanical systems is preferred; Shipyard/Nuclear facilities experience is desirable; Knowledge of NFPA codes and standards is preferred.
