What we are looking for
We are looking for a Group Agronomist who will play a key role in developing and implementing agronomic strategies to optimize crop production across all farms within the group. The role involves providing technical expertise, conducting research, monitoring performance, and ensuring sustainable farming practices while improving overall productivity and profitability. A critical focus will be on implementing regenerative agriculture practices where applicable and leveraging modern technologies like AI and NDVI imaging to enhance farm monitoring and decision-making.
What does the job involve
Crop Management
- Develop and implement crop production plans, including planting, irrigation, fertilization, and pest control strategies.
- Monitor crop health, soil conditions, and overall farm productivity to ensure optimal yields.
- Evaluate new seed varieties, fertilizers, and agrochemicals for suitability and effectiveness.
Research & Development
- Conduct trials and experiments to improve crop yields, quality, and sustainability.
- Integrate regenerative agriculture principles, such as crop rotation, cover cropping, reduced tillage, and organic amendments, into farming practices where applicable.
- Stay updated on the latest agricultural technologies and trends, integrating them into farming practices.
Modern Technology Integration
- Utilize AI, NDVI imaging, and other precision agriculture tools to monitor farm conditions, detect anomalies, and optimize resource use.
- Analyze data from modern technologies to provide actionable insights for improving crop performance and resource efficiency.
Data Management & Reporting
- Maintain records of crop performance, weather data, pest and disease outbreaks, and agronomic inputs.
- Prepare regular reports on farm performance, identifying areas for improvement.
Training & Capacity Building
- Provide agronomic training to farm managers and field staff.
- Foster knowledge-sharing across the group to promote consistency and high standards in operations.
Sustainability & Compliance
- Promote sustainable and environmentally friendly farming practices, with a focus on regenerative agriculture.
- Ensure compliance with local agricultural regulations and industry standards.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with suppliers, agronomists, researchers, and other stakeholders to improve access to resources and innovations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Science, Crop Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a similar role, with a strong background in commercial horticultural farming;
- Proven track record in improving crop yields and implementing sustainable farming practices.
- In-depth knowledge of agronomy, crop physiology, pest management, soil science, and regenerative agriculture principles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in utilizing AI and precision agriculture tools like NDVI imaging.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and training abilities.
- Proficiency in agricultural software and data management tools.
- Willingness to travel frequently across group farms.
- Passion for innovation and continuous improvement in agriculture.
