Job Overview:
The Audit Accountant is responsible for examining financial records and statements to ensure accuracy, compliance with legal standards, and adherence to internal controls. This role involves analyzing financial data, identifying discrepancies, and providing recommendations to enhance financial operations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Record Examination:
- Review and analyze financial statements and records for accuracy and compliance with applicable laws and regulations
- Inspect budgets and general ledgers to ensure proper allocation of funds and correct expenditure assignments.
2. Compliance and Risk Assessment:
- Evaluate financial data to identify potential risks, discrepancies, or instances of financial misconduct.
- Assess adherence to internal controls and recommend improvements to mitigate financial risks.
3. Reporting and Documentation:
- Prepare detailed audit reports summarizing findings, implications, and suggested corrective actions.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements and records for external audits, ensuring transparency and accuracy.
4. Collaboration and Advisory:
- Work closely with management and other departments to discuss audit findings and advise on best practices for financial management.
- Provide guidance on financial policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and compliance.
5. Continuous Improvement:
- Stay updated on changes in financial regulations and auditing standards to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance auditing skills and knowledge.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 4 to 5 years of experience in Top/Big 10 audit firms
- Familiarity with auditing standards and financial regulations.
Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- SAP knowledge is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Certifications:
- Pursuit of relevant certifications, such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or (CMA) or Chartered Accountant (CA), is a plus.
Work Environment:
- Location: Lagos, Nigeria.
- Work Hours: Full-time position with standard working hours; additional hours may be required during peak audit periods.
