Construction Manager-Building Construction

Company Overview:

Our client is one of Nigeria's leading private construction groups, with a rich history of delivering high-quality construction projects across the country. They are seeking an experienced and motivated Construction Manager with a specialized background in civil engineering for Building Construction projects. The successful candidate will lead and oversee multiple construction sites, ensuring timely and high-quality project execution while meeting budgetary and regulatory requirements.

Job Summary:

The Construction Manager will be responsible for directing and coordinating day-to-day construction activities on-site, ensuring that works are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, and project schedules. The role will translate the Project Manager's execution plan into effective site operations while managing subcontractors, suppliers, resources, and site teams.

Key Responsibilities:

• Direct and coordinate day-to-day construction activities across the project site.
• Implement the Project Manager's project execution plan at the operational/site level.
• Coordinate construction works in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, and project schedules.
• Supervise and manage subcontractors, suppliers, site personnel, and construction teams.
• Monitor daily and weekly progress against the approved construction programme and identify potential delays.
• Ensure construction activities meet required quality, workmanship, and technical standards.
• Coordinate site logistics, including manpower, materials, equipment, plant, and site access.
• Allocate and optimize resources to maintain efficient project execution.
• Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, environmental, and site regulations.
• Conduct regular site inspections and coordinate the resolution of construction, quality, and operational issues.
• Review and monitor subcontractor performance and ensure compliance with contractual and project requirements.
• Coordinate with consultants, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and other project stakeholders to ensure smooth execution.
• Identify site-level risks, challenges, delays, and resource constraints and escalate significant issues to the Project Manager.
• Prepare and submit regular site progress reports, highlighting achievements, challenges, delays, and required corrective actions.
• Ensure proper documentation of site activities, inspections, materials, work progress, and construction records.
• Support testing, commissioning, snagging, handover, and project close-out activities.

Requirements:

• 8–10 years of experience in construction management, preferably within the building construction industry.
• Proven experience managing on-site construction activities for medium to large-scale building projects.
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, site operations, sequencing, scheduling, and resource management.
• Experience supervising subcontractors, suppliers, site engineers, foremen, and construction teams.
• Good understanding of construction drawings, specifications, quality control, and site documentation.
• Strong knowledge of HSE requirements and construction safety practices.
• Ability to monitor progress, identify delays, and implement corrective actions.
• Strong leadership, communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple site priorities.
• Experience working on construction projects in Nigeria or other African markets would be an advantage.
• Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related discipline is preferred.
