The Company

Our client is a global leader in construction and part of a renowned Construction Group. With a diverse portfolio spanning various sectors, they boast a history of delivering complex and impactful projects worldwide. Their commitment to innovation and sustainability is evident in their current undertaking in Australia, a significant wastewater treatment plant upgrade in Canberra. This collaborative venture with their subsidiary, is valued at $385 million and encompasses a 10-year program.

The Role

Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Cost Controller will oversee budget management, cost tracking, and financial reporting to ensure the project stays within budget. This role is also responsible for validating procurement costs, monitoring project expenditures, analysing variances, and forecasting financial trends.

Responsibilities

  • Budget Management: Develop and implement budget processes, ensuring alignment with project deliverables. Work closely with budget holders to prepare and update budgets.
  • Earned Value Management (EVM): Establish and maintain EVM processes, conducting monthly updates to track project performance.
  • Cost Control & Procurement: Validate contracts, purchase orders, and invoices against budget allocations, ensuring accurate cost coding and tracking of commitments.
  • Cost Monitoring & Accruals: Oversee cost-to-date reports, control financial ledgers, and estimate accruals for contracts, labor, materials, and equipment.
  • Variance Analysis: Identify and analyze cost variances, conduct root cause analysis, and collaborate with stakeholders to address discrepancies.
  • Forecasting & Reporting: Maintain financial trends, update rolling forecasts, and provide analytical insights through KPI dashboards and cost control ratios (SPI, CPI, TCPI). Support senior management and JV partners with financial reporting and insights.


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, or a related field. Engineer background is a plus
  • 5+ years of experience in cost control or project control within the construction, engineering, or infrastructure sector.
  • Strong proficiency in ERP systems, and project cost software
  • Experience in large-scale construction projects, preferably in a JV structure.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively across functions and adapt in a fast-paced environment
