About the Role
Reporting to the Principal Engineer Electrical, the Senior Engineer Overhead Wiring will support the stewardship of electrical discipline assets, ensuring safe, reliable, and high-performing operations across the network.
This position plays a key role in developing asset strategies, supporting major expansion and improvement projects, and driving asset performance in line with the organisations operational and safety objectives.
Responsibilities
- Support the Principal Engineer in managing the Overhead Wiring (OHW) discipline assets, including asset strategy development, planning, and maintenance scheduling.
- Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for OHW on network expansion and improvement projects defining requirements, reviewing scopes, and overseeing asset acceptance and defect close-out.
- Provide engineering input across asset management, maintenance, and technical domains.
- Analyse asset performance data (including condition monitoring systems) and recommend strategies to meet or exceed reliability and availability targets.
- Identify and escalate system or process gaps, and assist in the development of engineering standards, technical instructions, and procedural documents.
- Maintain proactive communication with the Principal Engineer regarding emerging issues, risks, and operational matters.
About You
- Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent discipline).
- Min 5 years experience in Overhead Wiring design, maintenance, or engineering within a major rail network or large-scale rail project.
- Strong technical understanding of OHW catenary and solid conductor bar systems, including interfaces with traction power and return systems.
- Solid grasp of Australian, European, and TfNSW standards for passenger rail infrastructure design, testing, and acceptance.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication and report-writing ability, with a solutions-driven mindset and a focus on safety and reliability.
- Knowledge of the NSW Work Health and Safety Act, Rail Safety National Law, and SafeWork NSW guidelines.
