About the job Director of Nursing
As DON, you will be responsible for the overall quality clinical outcomes of the facility. This is achieved by working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary teams, as well as providing direct supervision to the Nursing Department team. Priority one will always be quality resident care, customer service and employee relations. This includes attracting and retaining top performing talented team members through training and coaching of staff. To accomplish this, the DON position requires excellent organizational and communication skills, clinical knowledge, and leadership skills. Main responsibilities of the DON include:
- Contributes to planning processes to achieve objectives guided by the vision and mission of HFSL
- Assures compliance with DOH, CMS and other regulatory and/or accrediting bodies.
- Collaborates with NHA and remains accountable for the operational and financial performance of the Nursing Department.
- Drives quality initiatives and oversees and maintains a QAPI and Infection Control program aligned with regulations.
- Leads efforts for recruitment, staffing, and retention of nursing team.
- Communicates timely and accurately with employees and customers. Meets with staff and management regularly to ensure initiatives and goals are being met.
The ideal candidate for the DON position will have previous experience in a nursing leadership role, a strong ability to work and collaborate with a team, and an in-depth knowledge of managing and training nursing staff through implementation of quality improvement programs.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience:
- BSN required; MSN preferred.
- 3+ years of experience as DON required.
- 5+ years of nursing leadership experience required
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations pertaining to LTC facility required.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities as cited above will be considered.
Additional Information
- What’s the average patient census? We are a 208-bed skilled nursing (148 beds)/short-term rehab (60 beds) facility. Our census is currently 136. We are COVID free!
- What’s the employee turnover rate or employee vacancy rate? Our turnover rate varies typically 1 -7% range. Our turnover rate for July was 1.66. We have many long term employees who have been with HFSL 10 – 30 years!
- Are you using travel or agency nurses? Yes, currently have two contracted local agencies with whom we have daily/weekly communication. The goal, of course, is to eliminate the use of agency staff.
- Is there a ADON and Unit Manager (s)? Yes, we have all of the above! We also have an (RN) House Supervisor on each shift.
- Who does the Infection Control ? We have a full-time (RN) Infection Preventionist on staff.
- The DON must have prior DON experience and strong leadership skills. The CEO and the President of their Board of Directors are both RNs, so candidates for this position must be polished
Required Licenses/Certifications
- Licensed Registered Nurse within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Salary: $96K-$102K Salary based on years of experience - may be negotiable based on qualifications, education and experience.
