R77 Global is partnering with a well-established Corporate Services Provider (CSP) in Malta to strengthen their client accounting function. Our client services a broad portfolio of local and international clients across various industries.
We are in need of an experienced Senior Accountant to work closely with our client and take ownership of a portfolio of client companies.
About the Role
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for full sets of management accounts and Maltese VAT compliance for a number of client entities. You will act as a key point of contact for clients and internal stakeholders, ensuring accurate reporting and adherence to local legislation. Experience in tax and corporate tax will be considered a strong asset.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare full sets of monthly and quarterly management accounts (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow and supporting schedules) for Maltese and international client entities.
- Oversee and review day-to-day bookkeeping, accruals, prepayments and other journals for assigned clients.
- Manage the month-end and year-end closing process, ensuring all reconciliations (bank, debtors, creditors, intercompany, VAT, etc.) are completed on time.
- Prepare, review, and submit Maltese VAT returns and recapitulative statements in line with local regulations.
- Monitor VAT accounts and resolve any discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Assist in the preparation and review of annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS and/or GAPSME, as applicable.
- Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and the Office of the Commissioner for Revenue when required.
- Provide financial analysis and commentary on results, highlighting variances and trends to clients and management.
- Support budgeting and cash flow forecasting for client entities.
- Supervise, mentor, and review the work of junior accounts staff, providing guidance and training.
- Drive process improvements and contribute to the implementation of best practices within the accounts department.
Requirements
- Fully or partly qualified accountant (e.g. ACCA, CPA, ACA, or equivalent).
- Typically 3 + years experience in accounting in Malta, ideally within a CSP, audit firm, or similar professional services environment.
- Proven experience independently preparing and reviewing management accounts.
- Strong working knowledge of Maltese VAT, including preparation, submission, and reconciliations.
- Good technical understanding of IFRS and/or GAPSME.
- Proficient with accounting/ERP systems and strong MS Excel skills.
- High level of accuracy, strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple deadlines and client demands.
- Excellent command of English; Maltese and/or another European language will be considered an asset.
- Strong communication skills and confidence in dealing directly with clients and senior stakeholders.
Nice to Have
- Experience in Maltese direct and corporate tax computations and/or returns.
- Exposure to international corporate structures and cross-border VAT/tax issues.
- Experience liaising with Maltese regulators and authorities (e.g. CFR, MFSA, MGA), depending on the client base.
Remuneration & Benefits
- Salary: Up to 40,000 gross per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.
