Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the design, integrity, safety and market competitiveness of packaging
  • Design packaging to meet cost targets, quality/performance objectives and plant safety standards
  • Proactively establish and execute packaging cost reductions and quality improvements to maintain or increase market share and company profitability
  • Design, conceptualize, prototype to ensure product integrity and appeal under varying shipping and retail conditions
  • Create detailed die line specifications and bill of materials.
  • Partner with the design team to create mock ups using cutting table for sales meetings
  • Analyze and select materials for packaging based on durability and cost effectiveness including, but not limited to, chipboard, paperboard, corrugate, labels, foam, PET, and PP
  • Perform required packaging drop testing as appropriate- ISTA testing
  • Work with external packaging testing labs as required by retailer
  • Ability to create packaging and point of purchase displays using Solid Works and/or physical samples
  • Manage schedule and priorities to meet established timelines
  • Review, optimize, and validate packaging designs based upon prototype and costing
  • Review and resolve packaging issues with suppliers as needed
  • Understanding supply chain systems, distribution, and manufacturing environments a plus
  • Understands ISTA / SIOC testing procedures
  • Work cross functionally with Engineering, Sourcing, Manufacturing and Product Development teams

Required Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Solid merchandising sense and problem solving skills
  • Understanding of concepts related to brand, product marketing and merchandising
  • Ability to successfully manage several different initiatives/projects simultaneously
  • Must be able to work cross functionally
  • The ability to navigate in a matrixed corporation.

Education and Experience Profile:

  • Bachelor of Science in Packaging Engineering or related field, Masters degree preferred
  • Computer program knowledge in CAPE or TOPS, Artios CAD, Solid Works and Microsoft Office required
  • Experience in the consumer products industry dealing with mass market retailers and Amazon SIOC a plus
