About the Role

PVLabs is seeking an Electromechanical / Mechatronics Assembly Technician with a high aptitude for complex assembly of multi-million-dollar airborne electromechanical optical sensor systems. This role will be responsible for ensuring that complicated engineering and manufacturing engineering schematics and layouts are effectively applied to precision assembly guidelines, torquing specifications and tooling requirements that follow strict quality and international airworthiness standards.

This is not a typical, stay-in-your-lane Assembly Technician role. Instead, its an advanced, multi-disciplinary role that will be responsible for the assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of complex electromechanical and mechatronics systems utilized in advanced airborne optical systems. This position requires a high degree of technical aptitude and the ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications to ensure precise assembly of sophisticated components. The ideal candidate will have experience in mechanical assembly, electrical wiring, and system integration, as well as a strong understanding of optical systems and mechatronics principles.

Its where concept turns into reality, where getting it right is a whole-team effort, and where your expertise matters.

About the Responsibilities

Obviously, some typical Assembly Technician fundamentals will anchor the roles responsibilities, including:

  • Electromechanical Assembly:
    • Assemble complex electromechanical systems, including but not limited to precision motor assemblies, multi-axis gimbals, optical components, and actuators according to engineering specifications and blueprints.

  • Electrical & Optical Wiring:
    • Perform intricate installation of harnesses, connectors, and circuit boards in accordance with industry standards and internal procedures. Properly route cabling to prevent interference with sensitive optical components.

  • System Integration:
    • Integrate subsystems (mechanical, electrical, and optical) into complete assemblies, ensuring alignment, calibration, and functionality of all integrated systems.

  • Troubleshooting & Debugging:
    • Diagnose and resolve assembly and functional issues in prototype and production units, working closely with design and test engineers to implement corrective actions.
  • Quality Assurance & Testing:
    • Conduct rigorous testing, including electrical continuity, mechanical tolerances, vibration testing, and optical alignment. Document test results and ensure that all products meet strict quality standards.

  • Documentation & Reporting:
    • Maintain detailed records of assembly procedures, modifications, and testing results. Contribute to process improvements by providing feedback and suggestions to the engineering team.

  • Compliance & Safety:
    • Ensure all work is conducted in accordance with safety guidelines, industry regulations, and company procedures. Handle sensitive equipment and components with care to avoid contamination or damage.

What were seeking is an objective thinker who can look at an opportunity or a problem from several perspectives and create solutions that makes sense for both now and the future. Someone who can understand the what if about Assembly and solve for issues before they arise by removing limits on current or conventional thinking.

Other Specific Responsibilities:

  • Assemble mechanical and electrical components and systems using hand and power tools.
  • Install and test electronic components such as sensors, motors, and control panels.
  • Troubleshoot and repair any mechanical or electrical issues that may arise during assembly.
  • Ensure all assembled products meet quality standards and specifications.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all workplace and safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with engineers and other team members to improve assembly processes and product design.
  • Document all assembly processes and procedures for future reference.

Desired Skills and Competencies:

  • Advanced knowledge of mechatronics principles including control systems
  • Proficiency in mechanical assembly and electrical wiring and related assembly tools
  • Strong understanding of the assembly of complex electromechanical systems, preferably in aerospace, optics, or defense industries.

  • Experience integrating and testing laser technology
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and communication/documentation skills.
  • Even better at problem solving and solutioning on-the-spot
  • Ability to interpret and work from complex engineering drawings, schematics, and BOMs.
  • Experience using hand tools, torque wrenches, and test equipment (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes).
  • Naturally curious, diplomatic, and innovative.

We'd be Really Thrilled if You Had:

  • Experience with airborne systems and related environmental testing including vibration and thermal
  • Certification in IPC-A-610 or IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards.
  • Experience with ISO-9001; 2015
