The Data Center Specialist is responsible for overseeing and managing the daily operations of the data center. This includes ensuring the reliability, availability, and security of critical systems, as well as performing maintenance and troubleshooting activities for both hardware and software. The role requires expertise in data center operations, server management, and network infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Infrastructure Management:

Install, configure, and maintain hardware systems (servers, switches, routers, storage devices).

Monitor and manage server performance, network connectivity, and power systems.

Ensure high availability and redundancy of systems within the data center.

2. System Monitoring & Troubleshooting:

Continuously monitor data center systems for performance, capacity, and potential issues.

Proactively identify and resolve hardware and software issues to minimize downtime.

Perform troubleshooting for server, network, and infrastructure problems.

3. Security Management:

Ensure the data centers systems and data are secure through monitoring, security audits, and vulnerability assessments.

Implement security protocols, including access control, firewalls, and encryption.

4. Data Backup & Recovery:

Manage data backup systems and ensure timely, regular backups of critical systems.

Perform disaster recovery drills and ensure robust disaster recovery plans are in place.

5. Capacity Planning:

Analyze and forecast the data centers needs for expansion based on usage trends and business requirements.

Plan and implement upgrades or scaling of systems as needed.

6. Vendor and Equipment Management:

Manage vendor relationships and ensure timely procurement of new hardware and software.

Ensure equipment is properly maintained and meet lifecycle management standards.

7. Documentation & Reporting:

Maintain accurate records and documentation of hardware and software configurations, network topology, and support logs.

Generate performance and status reports for management.

8. Collaboration:

Work with other IT teams (network engineers, system administrators, etc.) to ensure smooth operation and integration of systems.

Provide technical support to other departments as needed.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).

Proven experience in managing data center operations, server hardware, and network infrastructure.

Strong understanding of virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).

Experience with server hardware, storage systems, and networking devices.

Familiarity with data center environmental factors such as power, cooling, and space management.

Knowledge of security protocols and industry best practices (firewalls, VPNs, encryption, etc.).

Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks efficiently.

Excellent communication skills.
